My male chin will be 9mos on the 12th of Oct and I have had him since June. I interact with him every day letting him have a fenced playpen attached to his cage. I even get in with him most days and he does like his head scratched etc. My husband and I went to Carmel for a couple of days and when we got back I thought Tootie would be glad to see me, well not so and I`m kind of disappointed with that. What I would like to know is this the best he`s going to be? He runs and plays and loves his treats but really doesn`t show much affection towards me. I know some say this might take along time to bond but I would have thought maybe some of my hard work to win him over would have worked better!! He will get on my lap if I hold a treat for him and does jump on me but usually doesn`t stay long.:cry3:

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure that after a couple days he'll forget that you weren't around for awhile and he'll just as affectionate as before. You just need to work back up to that point.

Chins pout when they don't get their way. They get really, really angry when their favorite person goes away for a bit. When I am gone for a day about half my chins pout and are angry at me...but in a few days they forget and they're affectionate and happy again. :) Don't worry...he'll forget. You may need to provide a little bribe in the form of a little treat or a toy...

I think chinchillas are a lot like cats in they like things on 'their terms' and not ours. I never know what I'm going to get when I head into the chin room each evening. Sometimes they're all friendly and sometimes they're little snobs who want nothing to do with me. They do get very pouty when I let them out later than normal so I can only imagine if I left them for two days how snotty they'd be to me. I'm just very thankful they eventually forgive me and allow me to let them sit on my feet and maybe give them a scritch or two. I swear they're all born with little tiaras, heh.
