Repost (couldn't find original post):
Hello,
I have a chinchilla that is almost 9 years old that has a history of teeth issues (roots are crooked) and three of teeth have been extracted (one was decayed, too). He gets his teeth trimmed every four to six months, if needed. He's had teeth issues since he was four years old.
Just noticed the chinchilla opening his mouth continuously and looked like he was choking and he was clawing at the inside of his mouth. I went to grab my phone to call my vet and a few seconds later came back and saw something fall on the floor - it looks like one of part of an incisors came out/he might have pulled out out? His front paws and mouth and under chin were very wet. He then kept running around and even chewed on his lava rock/pumice block. I called the emergency vet and they said they would just give pain med (I gave Meloxicam that I have at home) and call regular vet tomorrow. Is there anything else I should do/be concerned about? I'm a bit nervous about examining his mouth in case it's sore. It's unlikely the tooth came out from the root, right? (I.e. if it did, there would be bleeding?)
He's constantly trying to chew things now (only very briefly then stops) and running around.
I'd be grateful for any advice/thoughts/recommendations.
Thank you!
