Help, drowning in pee and poop!

I have a tall metal cage for my chinchillas. I've done some alterations to make it safe. The problem I'm having is that the pee and poop go out of the cage. The cage is on carpet and there is no where else to put it. I've only had them 3 months and the carpet smells awful. The cage gets cleaned 3xs a week and I also take it outside and hose it down every once in a while. The smell is coming from the walls by the cage and the floor. The cage is in a nice cool basement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

i have fleece hanging on the wall behind the cage so if anything goes onto the wall it will hit the fleece i take it down and wash it and hang it back up for the carpet i have a rug underneath the cage wich i take out every couple a days and shake it out

I got a cheap roll of linoleum and put under my cages on top of the carpet. Much easier to clean.
