Hi everyone,
My name is Lauren.
I currently own 5 chinchillas (2 babies, I will only be keeping one...so 4 total)..
I heard about chinchillas from my cousin way back when I was 10 years old (in the year 2000, 13 years ago ><)
I begged and pleaded with my parents for them to let me have one. Didn't take long of course, I was spoiled!
I brought home my first chin (at the time 8 month old standard grey male) and believe it or not, he is still with me at 14 years old. His name is Rocky.
And of course after the first chin, I had to get another once I realized he seemed to be lonely. My cousin then gave me a mosaic female who was just over a year old (Named her Adrian from the Rocky movies). It was love at first sight. They did have 1 litter, and unfortunately mama passed just a week after giving birth. Her two kits did survive after much care, which I ended up selling them and using that money to get Rocky another mate since he was in depress mode.
In 2011 my parents let me get a beige 1.5yr old female, named Amy. 12 years later, she is still with Rocky. Both being roughly 14 years old. They had kits every now and then, maybe 5 total litters in that time. They kinda had kits when they felt like it. They've never been separated. I'm afraid of what that would do to Rocky.
On August 7th they surprised me with a litter of 2 kits (standard greys). I was shocked, they are not young after all. The kits are doing fabulous, and I am keeping the little female. She is an absolute sweetheart. The male is kind of a turd to be honest, lol. I already found a home for him, and they will be picking him up in about 5 weeks.
2 weeks ago, with my husbands permission of course, I went out and bought myself a 3yr old male mosaic, absolutely gorgeous. I named him Summit. Tundra, the 4wk old female, will be housed with him in roughly a year.
Hopefully my chin addiction won't go further then this! My husband would have me move out I'm sure .
Anyway - I look forward to speaking with everyone and all their chin stories.
I am picking up a FN cage tonight and already collected some amazing set up ideas.
Thanks,
Lauren
