So I'm not sure where to begin seeing as I registered over a month ago and I didn't actually think to introduce myself. Never too late though right?

I guess I'll start with myself and how I got here!

My name is Keira and I graduated from High School this year and I've already completed my first term of college classes. I'm loving it to say the least. I do martial arts and I looooove to draw! I'm balancing school, work, and my two adorable chinchillas.

For the longest time I was obsessed with getting a ferret. My mother wouldn't let me because they were too smelly. So I decided to compromise and settle with a rat or some type of rodent. Well low and behold there was this chinchilla for sale at Petsmart and it looked a lot cuter than a rat. I had seen one before, but all I remembered was that they were super skittish and did not like to be touched. Regardless I asked to hold her and she was softer than anything I had ever felt! Unlike what I had remembered she DID like to be pet and scratched. I was completely smitten with her from the start and all thoughts of some pesky rat soon left my mind. After scrounging through my savings I got her everything she needed and then some. I named her Mika.

Soon after getting her I realized that she had become very dependent on people for attention. I would come home from work and see her slouched over and staring through the bars awaiting my return. I worried that she would get depressed. I decided to get her a buddy and it helped a lot. Though they don't get along together, they do enjoy eachother's company through the cage bars! I named the other girl Kiki.

Since then I have had an interest and curiosity in chinchillas that has been borderline on the obsessed. When something interests me I try to learn all I can about it. Least to say I have lost most my interest in owning a ferret, especially after the wonderful experiences I have been having with my two chinchillas.

Lastly I want to say that I love this forum because it has been nothing but helpful for me since I've joined. I've learned a lot from reading on here and I love the sense of community that I get from everyone here. I hope I continue to have nothing but positive experiences :)

I'm glad someone feels the same way as me! I also wanted a ferret sooo bad, and my husband wanted one too, but he didn't want to have a smelly house, so eventually we decided to get a chinchilla instead, and he has been the best pet we have ever had! :)
PS. I like your name, Keira!

Welcome to CnH. :)

Just an FYI - we have two ferrets (and have had three at a time as well). They only smell if you don't keep them and their environment clean. They have a musky smell, much like a male rat does, but it isn't strong or overpowering.

Hi and a warm welcome to you.

I had an albino ferret who was the coolest little pet ever, and he did not have a smell. He was incredibly fun! That being said, I'm glad you've become as addicted to chins as the rest of us! They just have so much personality and they are really good at giving that look that makes your heart melt and makes you their personal slave! lol.

Pictures!

The standard is Mika and the pink white is Kiki. They make me happy :) thanks for the warm welcome!
