Hi! Name's Mike, we just picked up a chinchilla as a rescue (I had chins years and years ago). Thought I'd join up.

A bit about myself...hrmm...I'm 29, from wisconsin, married, with wonderful kids. We just bought our first home last year, and I work, work, and work some more. when I'm not busy...I play!

The chin we have: I just got him as a rescue of sorts...an owner who, for whatever reason, never took this girl out of her cage her whole life! When i picked her up, she was aggressive, peed on me with that oh-so-deadly accuracy, and acted like she may bite to defend her little wood box.
...That was saturday night.
As of today, I (and I alone, mind you) Can freely pick her up, she'll take treats (her one per day) from my daughter(s) and she's been out running free twice now (hey, I have a gift!) she just doesnt want her belly or feet touched, which is normal. ears and nose are ok. she'll give kisses. She's a sweety...she's just been poorly handled for the last 4 years. She was dying for attention!!

Only question I have is: The owner claimed her to be a sapphire, and she DOES have every sapphire quality...pick ears and nose, blue-ish tone to her fur, mostly grey besides with the obvious beige way underneath, and a white belly. Only thing is...she's got the ruby red eyes!!
is this possible for a sapphire?? Every sapphire I've seen before has had black eyes. could she be something besides a sapphire? I've seen a beige/sapphire cross with red eyes, but she's only a touch light beige on the way root of her fur. Cant figure it out!

I'm off! but I look forward to any replies! I'll hopefully get pics of her soonish.

Welcome Mike. :)

I don't believe sapphires have red eyes, but a beige sapphire carrier might. Can you post pictures of her when you get a chance?

Welcome! I know nothing about colours (not even on the quill side) but I can vouch for just about everyone when I say we love pics :)

Hi Mike! Welcome to another Wisconsinite! We should take over the world HA!

Thanks for taking in and loving your chin girlie! We absolutely love pictures here! Don't be shy posting pics of yourself and family if you'd like in the family section.

*UPDATE* I guess her eyes arent red...my camera has a wicked bad flash! Sorry 'bout that! Got to see her up closer finally.

I'm fairly sure she's a sapphire...guess the brown was from lack of chin baths and the cedar (yes, ca=edar!) chips used to line her cage!! *grr* poor girl. I got her new pine bedding, a dust-bath and am working on her diet as well yet. poor thing.
Not that she was abused...just not kept in optimal conditions. It'll take time, for sure!

I got her from a guy who just "didnt want her" anymore. I got her for roughly half the price of the cage she's in, no less! ($50)

So even if she was only a beige...it's not a bad deal!

I'll get pics soon I hope...got my hands full yet with other stuff.

Thanks for all the replies and welcomes!! I appreaciate it, guys! (and girls...not to exclude! lol)

Ok, you need to tell us what part of Wisconsin you're in. We've got the state pretty much covered, so my guess is you're close to one of us. By all means, post some pics! We love them! Welcome to the board!

Welcome to CnH! That's so wonderful of you to rescue the chin and have the patience to work with her! :)

LOL Thanks everyone! I live in central wisconsin, near Fond Du Lac!

heres the pic of her...sorry, she was tired today! Wouldnt come out of her house!

We have a better camera, but the digital SLR is awaiting the shipment of the new lens!

For the record, the box behind her is actually about 2" back from the cage...she cant get at it. it's just lining the wall behind her ATM until I get something more permanent installed.

Been awhile since I had chins!

Maybe it's just my monitor, I realize all monitors are different, but that looks like a beige to me, especially with the spots on it's ears.

Someone feel free to slap me upside the head if I'm wrong. :)

Welcome to CNH! I grew up in WI--northwest area. I still proudly consider myself to be a Cheesehead. :D

Looks like a beige to me. She doesn't have any sapphire look to her.
