Hi, I'm new to the forums, but not very new to chinchillas. I have one little guy, my buddy Miles who is a white mosiac I've had for almost 9 years. He's the most lovable fun chinchilla I've ever met, and he's been with me through so many changes in my life. I came to the forum chat last night to get some advice because he's not acting himself and I've afraid he might be sick. Right now I'm waiting to take him to the vet because they won't see him until noon. It's not a life-threatening emergency, but he certainly has me worried. I figured I would lurk around on here in the meantime.

Anyway, sorry this introduction is on the depressing side. It's nice there is a community of knowledgeable people to help when problems arise. I look forward participating in future chin discussions. :)

A little more about me: I'm currently in school finishing up a degree in natural resources. I am a big fan of tropical fish and currently have a 5 gallon tank with a family of moon platys and an albino cory catfish. I'm in the process of upgrading to a 20 gallon long to help grow my platy population. :) I'm also an avid birdwatcher and outdoorswoman. I love going on hikes and camping even though I don't have much time for that anymore with school.

Anyhoo, I guess I'll jump on in then!

Welcome! Hope your chin will be just fine!! I'm an avid birdwatcher outdoorswoman too :) and im getting a degree in wildlife management... you sound like someone i would hang out with .my chinchies approve

Hi there and welcome! I really hope all goes well at the vet today and you'll be letting us know that Miles is good and healthy. I also love the outdoors and birds fascinate me. I love providing food for the outdoor birds and observing how many different varieties the food attracts.

This forum is great. We're happy to have you here!

Just got back from the vet....

his weight, teeth, and temp are good, and the doc saw no signs of bloat, but he said his stomach felt empty. The doc said if I hadn't told him he was sick he would have thought my chin was in good condition except that his poo is small. Of course in the exam room, Miles was bouncy and active, but i know something is off. We got some critical care and the vet said to monitor his weight, keep him in cool temps and let him know how he's doing on monday so we can decide if further steps need to be taken. on a positive note Miles actually likes the critical care and was eating it on his own so no force feeding was necessary. Now to figure out why he isn't eating other things on his own....

Thanks for the welcome all!

Glad to hear his appointment went well! Hopefully he continues to show improvement and starts acting like himself once again for you.
