Hello!
I am the owner of an adorable 10 week old Hedgie named Lexie.
We are new to hedgehogs, but as I have allergies we decided she was the best option for us. There are not many Hedgies in the city I live in, so it was really hard to find her. She is such a sweetheart. Unfortunately because there aren't many hedgies there are even less resources for them. Ever since we decided to get a hedgehog I seem to spend all my spare time reading up on them...and still she constantly surprises me with the things she does!!
We love having her and she was the perfect addition to our little family, but having such a rare animal does make it difficult to know whether she is normal or not. We have a well baby check up booked with an experience Vet in two weeks, so I am looking forward to that.
She was pretty shy when we got her but in the last two weeks she has grown and changed so much and already snuffles around and plays in our presence when before she would just sit still. She is not a snuggly hedgie though, she would rather be climbing and exploring all over us when we hold her (always seems to leave a poop trail too!).
She quickly outgrew her cage and so we have built our own out of plastic board - 6ft long by 2 ft wide (she will have lots of room to play!). I just love being able to be creative and come up with our own stuff for her.
Anyway, enough raving about my wonderful Hedgie....we joined this group to touch base with other owners who have some experience with these little guys. I have probably read every book/article out there but still seem to be surprised by her on a daily basis - so I realize the value in experience and am looking for advice from fellow owners...and of course for people who understand the wonderful experience of having such a curious prickly little friend!
Nice to meet you all!
