Hi everyone!
I have been a chinchilla owner for a little over a year now and I just love the little guy. His name is Darwin, he is a standard grey and is about 5-6 years old. His previous owner was a friend of mine who became an "army wife" and didn't think she could give him a proper home with all of the moving she has to do.
I have been reading and learning a ton on this forum, I just love it. Darwin's first momma didn't give me much information at all about caring for chinchillas so it was pretty scary at first. It's hard to find good, reliable information on chinchillas. I owned a guinea pig before Darwin and there is a mighty big difference between the two in diet alone!
Unfortunately, I got some really sad news (and a huge bill) at the Veterinarian yesterday. Darwin's teeth have started growing downwards into his gums. The x-rays show it is in the early stages right now so I'm to give him Metacam and Regulan everyday until it is his time to go. I was a wreck all day yesterday, he's still as playful and happy as ever I can't believe this had to happen to him.
But this site seems amazing for information and support for Darwin and any future chinnies I may own. Thank you!
