Hi everyone!

I have been a chinchilla owner for a little over a year now and I just love the little guy. His name is Darwin, he is a standard grey and is about 5-6 years old. His previous owner was a friend of mine who became an "army wife" and didn't think she could give him a proper home with all of the moving she has to do.

I have been reading and learning a ton on this forum, I just love it. Darwin's first momma didn't give me much information at all about caring for chinchillas so it was pretty scary at first. It's hard to find good, reliable information on chinchillas. I owned a guinea pig before Darwin and there is a mighty big difference between the two in diet alone!

Unfortunately, I got some really sad news (and a huge bill) at the Veterinarian yesterday. Darwin's teeth have started growing downwards into his gums. The x-rays show it is in the early stages right now so I'm to give him Metacam and Regulan everyday until it is his time to go. I was a wreck all day yesterday, he's still as playful and happy as ever I can't believe this had to happen to him. :(

But this site seems amazing for information and support for Darwin and any future chinnies I may own. :) Thank you!

Hello and welcome. I'm sorry to hear your news about Darwin. I say for the time you have remaining with him spoil him rotten and let him have a raisin or two!

Welcome and I too am sorry to hear about Darwin. He's a little cutie. Give him lots of lovins for us.

Welcome! Spend as much time with Darwin and spoil him!!! I am so sorry to hear about what is going on with him.

Yes, it definitely is bittersweet. I'm sorry about your Darwin, I just had a tear roll down my eye, but you've come to a great place. Don't hesitate to ask for help, that is what we're here for. Enjoy and spoil your baby and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to CnH. I had a chin with malo, I'm very sorry to read that you have to go through that too..

Welcome to CnH, there are lots of helpful people here. I am very sorry that Darwin has malo... I believe it was Mercynursie (a member on here) who said that, once an animal cannot enjoy his three favorite things, it is time for him to go.

Spoil your little Darwin rotten, as this time is all you will have with him.

<hugs>

Hi and welcome! I'm so happy you found this great forum, but I'm so sorry to hear about your baby :( I agree with the others that this is a time for lots of extra love and spoiling. Thoroughly enjoy your time with him. He is lucky to be with you!
