Hi,
My name is Sandra. I am new to this forum. I came across this site a while back searching for chinchillas. I have read so much helpful information on here, that I had to join the forum. Right now I live in Milwaukee with my husband, and 3 kids. I also have a collie, and my chinchilla. I would love to share how I adopted my first chinchilla. This is the only chinchilla I have right now. I plan on adopting a pink white female as soon as I can find one.
I purchased my chinchilla a month ago that is now 8 months old from someone on Craigslist. She had her in a small one level rabbit cage with all plastic accessories (just an igloo house and 2 bowls), and a wire running wheel. She had no wood chews, and was also on a bad diet (guinea pig pellets with some other mixture. Not sure what). I slowly changed her diet to Mazuri with Timothy Hay. She was stuck in her cage until I could build her a chinchilla safe cage which only took 2 days. She seemed very depressed in the cage she came with. I felt so sorry for her. I built her a large all metal cage (36 W x 30" D x 48" H) with pine shelves and leap ledges, and I also made her a 16" solid metal running wheel (she hasnt figured out how to use it yet). I put all kinds of chew goodies, and a bunch of nice accessories in her cage. When I put her in her new cage she was so happy, and hyper! She just kept running, and jumping up and down. She is much happier now. She is such a sweet girl. She is very friendly, and bonded to us right away. I named her Chi-Chi. I love her so much, and I am so happy I found her.
Thank you so much for reading my post!
