Hello from Waldorf, MD. I'm Sheila and my partner is Murfi. Together we have 3 hedgies (Nook, Chance and Ziggy - all rescues) and 3 fosters at the moment (Einstein, Pokey and Little Buddy). We are an approved Rescue Station for the Hedgehog Welfare Society and I have served as the Rescue Committee Co-chair since January 2006.
We take in hedgies, work with them to find out the best about their personalities and adopt them out. If they are unadoptable for some reason, they stay with us. We also take in hedgies that have Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome and provide hospice care to them. We have an excellent vet that helps us with that.
Murfi is home full time. She suffered a broken back at work in 2000 and has been on disability ever since. She has had multiple surgeries with no improvements. Recently, she was diagnosed with liver failure and we are currently working with Georgetown University to get her on the transplant list. As you can imagine, things are a little hectic around our house. The hedgies give us a sense of normalcy.
We also have a dog, Piper (a pom) and a Ragdoll cat, Meshach, and an aquarium. We're both originally from Texas. Murfi has travelled all over as an Army brat. I was a Texan through and through til I fell in love with Maryland.
