Hello all!

I am a semi-new chin. owner and thought it would be a good idea to read up on them before he comes home to me.
I'm getting my chin on Wednesday (hopefully) and have a Critter Nation all set up and ready for him.

Everything I've read on here is helping me heaps! Thank you all for being so informative. Its great help for us who aren't 100% sure of what is best.

I had a chinchilla when I was younger but he was mostly under my moms care. This one will be my new little baby and I can't wait til he comes home.

I will post pictures of him as soon as he arrives!

Any recommendations for when he comes home or maybe some fav. treats/toys your babies love?

Thank you!!!

Stephanie & soon to be Kiwi

Welcome!! My girl loves cheerios for treats. And her favorite toy is the lava bites or the wooden baby building blocks

when my bf surprised me with my chin, he bought all the supplies the day of at the breeder's and brought her home in the cage (back then, we didn't know any better to prepare everything ahead of time). but most use carriers to transport them home

Hello & Welcome!
Using a small animal carrier is the easiest way to get them home. How far will she be travelling?

We won't be traveling too far.
About 30-40 minutes.

My mechanic (aka my dad) is looking at my A/C to make sure its up and working for the trip.

Really glad you've joined us! Can't find the answer you are looking for though the search at the top, just ask!

My babies are home!

I adopted/rescued a mother/daughter pairing from an owner in Chilliwack.
Their cage was small for two chins in one and they only had a wheel and dustbath house for a home!

I will post pictures of
Strawberry (momma)
and Kiwi soon!

I have a question...
How long should I slowly get them used to me?
They're still a little unsure of the new owner, and Momma's a little nippy.
When I was with them at their old home they were super friendly and curious.
Any and all suggestions would be great!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Welcome and congrats on the new kids. :)

Give them a week or so to settle in before you really start working with them to get friendly. Rescues especially can need a settling in period, just to chill a bit, as some chins just don't do well with change. They will also need time to adjust to their new cage, if they came from a very small one into a monstrous CN cage (which are awesome cages, BTW).

Once they settle in, then you can start working with them more, sitting by the cage reading to them, letting them get used to your voice and your scent, eventually opening the cage door and letting them come up and sniff and nibble on you. After that you can bribe them onto your hand and arm with some chin safe treats. It may take you a while to friendly mom up again, you just need to have looots of patience.
