Hello My name is Cindy and I currently have five chinchilla's. I am new here and seek more knowledge on raising chinchilla's. Currently have two females and three males. I am currently working on our newest addition Dusty. She recently lost her mate and was given to me because she has become depressed and seems to pick fights with all her other old cage mates. I was told she may be pregnant so I suppose we shall wait and see! Then there are Wall-e and Eve whom we were given as the orginial owner could not take care of them as they were in the process of moving. They are a bonded pair. Eve is very protective of Wall-e and I since she is an Alpha female. She and Wall-e both like to pull the other fur out of my bonded brother's Chili and Cheese. I will attach pictures of all my babies and hope to hear some feed back from more experienced Chinrents!!! Thank you!!

Welcome! Adorable chins you have!

And just for future reference (feel free to start a new thread in a chin section if you have questions) it's generally not a good idea to put more than one male in with a female. They can fight to the death.

Thank you all for the welcomes! As for only one male with the females, none are caged together besides Wall-e and Eve as they have been together since I got them. Only time everyone is together is during play time which is supervised at all times. However, Dusty the new chin who lost her last cage mate, has grown fond of my Cheese poof. He is housed with his brother Chili. Should I separate them even though the female is not caged with them? I have had no problems thus far and do not want to chance it.

Okay, hopefully I read this right.

A) You let all of the chins run together? Please don't continue that. It takes seconds, literally, for breeding to take place. I can't even imagine what a mess that would be, not knowing who the father is. Also, loose females with loose males is just asking for a fight between the males. They will fight to the death over a female if the mood takes them.

B) You have two males together, but no female with them, and that's okay. I have lots of males together in my breeding barn with no issue. Any chins can fight any time, so just watch them for signs of aggression between them. Other than that, I would just let them be if they are getting along.

Thank you for you opinion tunes! The two females (whom I rescued) are already pregnant (vet checked). I personally have not had any problems with any of my chins fighting (only fur pulling). I will keep in mind your opinion and thank you for it! :) Also, I have been reading into breeding (spoke to vets local breeders even Whimsy who has her own rescue). She was the person who referred me to this site! Said if I was serious about doing so that I should look in to breeding and the responsibilites and effort it takes in doing so. So I have been doing my research!! This is why I joined this site... ;-)

Hi Cindy and welcome! I'm not a breeder myself, but there is a great section on breeding do's and don't's, and the horrors that can happen. After you read that, ask away if you have any more questions. The people here are so great at sharing info. Then you can make an informed decision whether or not breeding is right for you.

And your furbabies are beautiful!

Hello Jenn! Thank you for your sweet comment! I suppose after these babies are born (two chinchillas I have adopted from other people are pregnant was unaware until vet visits) I will definately know whether or not this is for me! Thanks again and I will be sure to ask all and any questions I have that my vet can not answer lol!!!!

H,i welcome to the forum. This site has any and every answer to any question you may have, everyone here is so nice, and will always offer help that is best for your chins. I just love the first sleepy pic you posted, someone must have had a good day. All your babies are beautiful.
