I caved and had to put the heat on last night. This afternoon when I took Richie out for feeding, when he went in the bathroom he went right to the heating vent on the floor and layed on it.
The heat was on, so he was purposly laying in the heat. I found this very odd since they like the temperatures so low.
Has this happened to anyone else? I didnt want him to sit there too long and get overheated so i kinda made him move after a couple minutes.
Any thoughts?

Chins love warm things and really love basking in the sun so long as the ambient temperature is low.

The air that comes out of your vent isn't going to overheat him. :)) He was probably doing what we all love to do on cold days - soak in the heat somewhere cozy!

My weaning cage has a corner that gets morning sunlight and all six boys are squished up there on one 6" ledge basking. :D I've found that given the opportunity they will go sit or nap in a sun spot vs. shade.

Chins who are feeling under the weather, old chins, and young kits/pregnant mums often crave warmth - for sick chins it is a real comfort thing so I always provide a cozy spot with a heat pad for any chin who is sick.

As Spoof says, most chins will take the opportunity to bask in sunlight if they can too. :)

he has malo and is on meds. maybe he does want heat! what type of heating pad is used? i use those things for myself that you heat up in the microwave and richie always seemed facinated with it. can i use one of those or do they make ones special for pets that they cant chew the cord? not that he really can chew much.
