Heat Lamp (Heating questions seem common lol)

We just got a Flucker's Clamp Lamp and put it on today for my new hedgie. We got a 150w infrared bulb, but now reading through some posts, I don't know if we have a good bulb or one that might be bad for her. Help would be greatly appreciated, and any links showing the bulb I need would be helpful as well. Thanks!

You need a ceramic heat emitter. Here are a couple of links to them:

Also, do you have a thermostat for it? If not, you need to add one, it is what regulates the temperature in your hedgehog's cage. Couple of links to thermostats:

Is this a must for a hedgie to have a heat lamp? What do they gain from it?

Hedgehogs need to remain between 74-84 degrees or else they are liable to have a hibernation attempt which can result in death. It is also very important that their temperature doesn't fluctuate much. Having a heat emitter (not a heat lamp) helps to regulate the temperature in their cage so that your house doesn't have to be kept so warm. It's also more reliable as you can be sure the temperature is what it should be. If you have a thermometer installed it will turn on the emitter when it gets below what it should be and then turn it off when its warm enough.

This also saves on heating costs as you are just running the emitter not heating the whole house.

Not everyone has a heat emitter for the hedgie but its a very, very good idea.
