On a regular basis I go by the pet store in my city in New Mexico to look for leaping ledges and make sure that the chins are getting their baths...as well as picking up hay and looking for safe toys for my 3 girls. The last time I was in there, however, the owner of the shop told me a delightful yet sad story involving a chinchilla.
Apparently she had a woman bring a chinchilla in, who she was carrying around in a dog carrier. Now just for note, this woman did not even know what a chinchilla store was before she stepped foot into the pet with her standard girl. She had found the chinchilla on her front porch that morning being stalked by a cat, and since she figured the animal must belong to someone since they are not native to New Mexico she scooped her up and went shopping. The woman bought everything a chinchilla could ever want, and then some. A very nice cage with no plastic, a wood house, bath, dust, food...all of this for an animal that randomly showed up on her front porch.
I was very happy when I heard, since that means that not all people in this area are mean...but at the same time sad that someone allowed their chin to escape or even let the girl go, especially when we have been having 90 degree heat down here.
