Hi all,
I have a question about my little guy, Butters (7 months old). He LOVES to come out of the cage and play, but we recently moved into a tinier place and now have a small closet type room for him to run around. But instead of playing, he spends the whole time trying to escape! He knows where the door is, looks up at the handle and tries to jump up like he thinks he can open the door! I can't get h im to run around and play, he just tries to escape out the door the whole time. Is he unhappy with his playroom? I'm not sure what to do. Its so funny though watching him look up and jump as high as he can up the door. I wonder what he thinks he is going to do, lol.

He may be unhappy with the new play area, especially if he was used to a much bigger area before. Does he have room to really run and let loose? If it's a closet sized space, he may not.

You could try your bathroom instead. Make sure all chemicals are put away and the toilet lid is down, and let him run. It's easy to sweep up after as most bathrooms are linoleum or tile.

He might be unhappy with the new room if he was used to more space before. Or it could be that he just needs some time to settle in - if you've only had him out a couple of times I would give it another week or 2 and see if he settles down. If he doesn't then it's either tough luck or you will have to chin-proof a bigger room for him! Do you have a landing/ hallway area? That could work well, or the bathroom as tunes said.

I wonder since you just moved and his cage is in a new area, and his play time is in a new area as well if he's just a little freaked out. Hopefully he'll settle in soon! Let us know how he's doing.

he's probably just trying to open the door to get into a bigger space. Moving is a big change for everyone involved-including your little guy.

Give it time and more space if you can...other wise he'll just have to learn...or grow a couple of inches :neener:

I definitely think thats the problem and unfortunately I dont know what to do, besides that little hall we have a studio apartment where everything is in one room so it is nearly impossible to chin proof, there are so many hazards! I'm really sad. I tried him in the bathroom which is actually pretty big and he did the same thing- headed for the door and started jumping. And now he is acting skiddish in his cage, running and hiding from us, which is really weird because he was nicer to us not to long ago and it was after the move. I dont know what changed.
