I've seen stuff about hay and pellets and i don't quite understand if you get both or one or the other or what?
Where would i buy it?
I will soon have one female, and want the best for her.
Thanks for any advice!! :)

The pellets should be the primary diet for your chin the hay is a supplement and not entirely necessary. If you feed hay I recommend Timothy or Orchard Grass.

For the pellets use a plane (no treats) chinchilla or rabbit feed preferably made without corn. ManaPro SHO formula rabbit is good I used to use it but recently switched to Purina rabbit show due to cost. You should be able to find it at most feed stores.

Many people free feed both. They compliment each other nutritionally. Hay has the added benefit of grinding down those back teeth keeping them trimmed down as they munch their hay and keeps their diet high fiber great for their digestion. There are several good pellets to choose from such as oxbow or mizuri (sp?) that are readily available at pet stores like pet smart. Oxbow timmothy hay is what I feed daily for hay with oxbow orchard grass hay every few days. :)

i free feed both. i give my chins oxbow pellets and a variety of store bought hay. I make sure they always have pellets available to them though.
my chins love their hay so i always make sure i have it on hand as well.
i used to buy my hay and pellets at petco and petsmart (until i found an exotic pets specialty store in my city.) also as some good advice dont buy kaytee pellets or dust its not good dust and the worst food you could give to your chin.

agreed. hay is important to keep those teeth from growing too long!

i feed Oxbow pellets to both my boys, and am quite happy with this feed.
