Hello
I am looking for a new hay manager for my two chinchillas. They currently have a hay ball, but I found out it wastes plenty of hay everyday.
Does anyone bought BunnyBale Hay Hopper? http://www.bunnybale.com/HayHopper.html Is it good? Is it minimizing the waste of hay? :hmm:
What do you use for your chins? and do any of you have other better suggestions recommend for holding hay?

thanks,
Janice

i am probably going to have my fiance' make me wooden hay boxes when my boys go in their new cage (which seems like it is taking 4-EVER!!)
but i have been using thick cardboard tubes, sorta like toilet paper tubes but NO glue was used in these tubes and they are a little bigger and thicker but about the same length. i put a handful in every night and usually they have fun pulling it out but it does make more of a mess. i change the tubes after i notice if they have fur on them or if they rolled in pee or if they start chewing them (only my spazzy boy Stitch chews his tube). Anyway its a cheap alternative. some toilet paper or paper towel tubes do not have glue on them and once in a while if we dont have any at work, i use one of those.

i used to throw one toilet paper tube into the cage, and they looked like enjoying. But then, I afraid too much paper eaten is not good for their stomachs.

I have not used the Bunny Bale Hay Hopper but I have heard amazing things from people who have. I would love to try them out if shipping wasn't so crazy expensive to here. For now I just use clay pots.

The shipping cost is around $4-5, which is not too bad... I hope the Hay Hopper do keep the floor cleaner. But yea... I would like to hear more comments on it before getting one.

Ohhh...I would love to have that for the buns! The chins we just give our hay loose on the floor since it seems to end up their anyway.. lol

I have hay in a spinning ball and have a shallow box underneath to catch the fallen hay. I also have some hay just in a bowl next to her food and so far she hasn't made any mess at all with that...

I tried that too, i have another bowl with hay next to their food... perhaps mine are messy, they still manage to drop the hay on floor. lol

I don't think my chin gets overly excited about her hay, hence, no mess. She eats it very lady like! But she does make quite the mess under her hay ball and the box catches a lot although I have to move the box back from time to time since she likes to move it around! I have just given up on the idea of a clean cage.

I would just assume that all hay holders are messy? I ordered a willow basket from a member online and waiting to see if it is or not! My bunny's rack is always messy - I made it by bending a piece of metal storage cube in half and he sits in it and makes a bigger mess....but it's funny! LOL!
