Hay makes my chin pee

I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar to this.

A while back i had mentioned that one of my boys had become a shelf pee'er. After enough time and observation, I realized that it looked like he was only peeing on top of the hay he would drag onto the shelf.

So I moved his hay dish to the bottom tray. And sure enough, in the last month or two, he has not pee'ed on the shelf the hay used to be at. Not once. He will occasionally pee right where the hay is dragged on the bottom tray however. Not as often as he did on the shelf, but does it none the less.

I find that just a little bit odd. Maybe its his form of protest against the hay. (Oxbow western timothy hay)

If your cages are still as bare as they were in that post you had up last week, you might want to cover the whole floor in bedding rather than just a portion of it. Sounds like he's decided to take it upon himself to make his own instead of waiting for you to figure it out.

Your chinchilla drinking water is causing him to urinate. Same as when you drink water and you have to use the restroom.

Do you have a littler pan? What kind of bedding are you using? Do you have bedding? It sounds like he is making his own "restroom".

Also, please toss any hay that he has urinated on.

Yes, they have litter pans and litter. Aspen shavings. The boys are actually pretty good with using the litter. They stick to their usual spots most of the time. And its no problem. The only time he doesn't use the litter is when he goes on the hay.

Also, please toss any hay that he has urinated on.

FYI: I'm currently talking to the makers of the bass pans about making metal corner litter pans that will fit their FN shelves they make. They said they might be able to, and they will look into it. So i hope their able to. That would be great. New shelves and new litter pans. Once those two are taken care of, I will start trying to add various things for entertainment.
