So I noticed that my bf's piggy mouth looked swollen and took him to the vet...we though it was an absess but the vet said it was Cesesus Lymphadenitus (hard to read his chicken scratch) I tried googling it with no luck he had 3 mass in his lymphnodes and is having surgery to remove them. I guess it pretty contageous but i had no luck looking it up if anyone else has heard of this please let me know!!! Thanks so much

Thats what i was wondering if it was..that not what the vet said though...Brutus is at the vet now having surgery and they are keeping him over night. But the vet was to busy with him to give the information to me. which is fine as long as brutus is being taking care of. He had 3 masses in his lymphnodes that he had found so far i will hopefully know more tonight when they call me. Thanks so much for helping me find out what it may be

The vets office just called me ( i emailed them and asked) and the dr said it is the same thing as the cervical lymphadenitus Now we just have to watch for it in our lil girl piggy we adopted and hope she doesnt get it

Hope your wee boy piggie makes a quick recovery, and my fingers are crossed for your girl piggie too.
Best wishes from my twelve piggie girls xxxxx

Caseous lymphadenitis is an abscess cause by the bacteria Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. I have no idea about it in guinea pigs, but I do know that in other species it can cause abscess in the lymph nodes, spleen, lung, brain, and spinal chord.

Sorry am late with an update (i was out of town so the bf was taking care of him) His surgery went good 2/3 abcess ruptured so he now has tubes in his cheeks for draining that have to be flushed twice daily with iodine. the third abcess was able to be cut out thankfully he is on antibotics and pain meds and seems to be in a better mood (he was popcorning around cuz we were handpicking and feeding him hay) He has to be hand fed pretty much because of the tubes in his cheeks So he is gonna be even more spoiled. Minerva (our female) so far doesnt seem to have any lumps we check her twice a day 3times today cuz i checked her as soon as i got home and got our Brutus taken care of.

Yeah he is doing good so far. He is a trooper. It does take both my boyfriend and I to do the flushing of the abcesses and give him his meds such a squirmy lil guy. He goes back for a checkup on wednesday and hopefully get his tubes out. Thanks everyone for you well wishes. Its much appreciated. My bf says he kinda looks like a vampire piggy lol he is still cute as ever though

Another update...he is still doing very well. We just flushed out his tubes and gave him his antibiotics and after some much needed snuggles went back to his huge brand new cage that got made while he was in surgery ( to keep the 2 piggies apart) Boy was he happy he was running around and popcorning all over the place and making all kinds of sounds ( he could hear his gf lol) Standing up on the side of the cage trying to find her. Im glad he is doing so well. Thanks for the well wishes keep em coming.

Well Brutus just got back from the vet. He got his tubes taken out of his cheeks (now there are holes there :( ) and we still have to flush them out twice a day. He now has stumped the vet. The bacteria that he has is something that is passed from cats and we have no cats and it usually shows up as a respitory problem and Brutus got abcesses they are waiting for the final culture to come back so they no for sure the correct antibiotics to put him on the get rid of it. He goes back in on tuesday next week for another check up. Thanks again for everyones well wishes. Hopefully he will get past this soon.

Did the culture show Bordatella? There's been a lot of that lately.

I hope he continues to improve and his infection clears up soon. Poor guy. Sounds like he's been through the ringer.

I think he said it was pasturella i could be totally wrong on that but i know it suprised the vet cuz he didnt think it was that at all we will know more hope by the end of this week when the final culture comes back

Just an update Brutus is doing great had his last vet visit today, vet says he looks great and is healing awesome even though he ripped out his stitches sometime last night. Silly piggy. Vet said well i guess he didnt wanna come back and did my job for me lol but Brutus is doing great and definately back to himself.

Thanks..im just glad he is doing better still cant believe the lil bugger ripped out his own stitches lol
