Hey everyone! I'm kinda new to here, and I just got my two new Chinnies today! Sandy and Dusty, haha. Pics soon!

Anyhow, they came in a GROSS cage that is half a Prevue Rabbit hutch, with a Super Pet chinchilla cage zip tied on top, that CANNOT be good! However, I got both Chins, (very healthy and sweet I must say) tons of food, treats, and that dreadful cage for only $150 bucks so I really can't complain! Dusty is a male, and he is a standard grey, and Sandy is a GEORGEOUS female **** beige.

Anyhow! :dance3: I have been looking and looking and looking for nice cages tonight online, Craigslist, Ebay, whatever. And I think all my hours of searching tonight have paid off! I found a great deal, check this out:

I know there's a lot of plastic in there, but I am going to take all the ramps out at least and put my own custom wood ledges in there. But the bottom is deep! And the cage is huge! Plus I love the color, it's sooo much better than having a purple or blue cage, which I personally can't stand. In my opinion, nice cages really help play up whats inside! Haha.

This cage on most sites is around $200 to $250! I bought this at PetCo for $109 with FREE SHIPPING! I could faint, I think I did good! Also, if you type in TALK10 as a promo code, it takes another 10% off, which after taxes of course made my total $107! Sold!

Most cages that are a lot smaller are on Ebay for much more than a hundred bucks, and they are flimsy with hardly any pan at best! I didn't want a FN cage, because I had had one awhile ago with a ferret that I had and it was AWFUL moving those cages around, and taking them outside to spray down every once in awhile was pretty much impossible.

I think one will be much easier to tear down and keep clean, my Chinnies are going to love their new mommy, I hope!

Let me know what you guys think! I'm super excited. :) It'll be here in less than a week!

Welcome to your new chins!

The cage is fine, if you like it. I'm personally not crazy about Superpet cages, but it is a decent sized cage and I think two chins would do nicely in it. Glad to hear you'll be replacing the shelves and taking out the ramps. I suggest that most of the shelves you make stretch from one side of the cage to the other (rather than leaping ledges) and have bolts on either 2 or three sides, because with the few superpets we have, if the small ledges are only attached to the cage on one side... they tend to fall... cause with the larger bar spacing (as compared to a cage with like 1x1 bar spacing) there's not that much for the shelves to grip onto.

It looks like it has a deep pan, and we all know that's always a plus

Have either of the chins been sterilized? If they have not been then you may need to look for a baby safe cage, just in case the girl is pregnant. As I'm sure you know, chins will breed if given the chance, so you might want to think about 2 cages.

Other than that, take out all the plastic and replace with wood and some fleece accessories and you will have a great looking cage!

i agree, if you are in fact intending to breed these chins, which prob shouldnt be bred by hearing the facts of where they came from, you need a cage with 1/2" bar spacing and another seperate cage for the male or he will keep breeding her back and will never stop

Dusty is neutered, forgot to mention that! No babies for me, whew!

Are you sure? I'm not saying you're lying, but it's not all that common for chinchillas to be neutered (maybe it is some places, but not around where I'm at) - and I'm not sure I'd go by the people I'm buying from's word that a chin is neutered... unless they were like a known breeder or a rescue or something...

Yes, I am 100% sure. I adopted them from a local rescue here in Birmingham, and they actually happen to use the same vet that I do. She also gave me the paperwork from the vet, luckily it was done before I got him, it is a costly procedure, but the vet did it for a super discounted price through the rescue. He had came to them with a herniated testicle, so they had no choice! Poor baby :(

However, he recovered awesome, and now here he is with me!

My vet is awesome! They neuter Gliders, apparently Chins, they are great, but you pay through the nose for their service!

Good Deal! :) I would get a smaller cage, just to have on hand should they decide not to get a long in the future; but that is just me and I over prepare sometimes! Enjoy your chinnies and post some pics of the little fuzz butts! We LOVE pics here! :)
