Goodbye shavings!

Hello FLEECE!!

So, after sweepings shavings off my floor about 10 times today, I laid on my bed to find it too covered in shavings.

I decided I had enough! I went to our "dog blanket closet" & pulled out all of the fleece blankets, and threw them in the washer, began the task of dumping & scrubbing out the 5 chinchilla & 1 guinea pig cages, and now, everyone is happily sleeping on fleece!!

The only thing I have to say is, it REALLY shows how much a chinchilla poops!! :laughitup:

Hopefully though, it will be cleaner & easier in the long run!!

Any tips from those who already use fleece? How often do you shake it out & how often do you wash it??

I've never used shavings for chins--I knew from having previous small animal pets on shavings that I NEVER wanted to deal with that again! I love my fleece! I grab the fleece and dump the poops in the garbage usually every day, sometimes I slack and do it every 2 days. I normally wash my fleece twice a week but I know a lot of people here do it more frequently. I also only have one chin per cage so I'm sure that makes a difference.

I know shavings are a pain, but my job requires me to be away for 2 days..so I didn't like it before (when I had just the guinea pigs)
I was using carefresh, but it's just too expensive with 6 cages!

I have 3 cages with just 1 chin, 1 cage with mom & her 2 babies, and 1 cage with a pair of males...then the 1 guinea pig.

My job requires me to leave here Friday nights at 11 pm, and I come home monday at 7 am..and I am off the rest of the week, (I take care of mentally & physically handicapped in thier homes) and the family takes care of the animals while I am away... So I can just clean them really good before leaving for work, and then first thing monday & they should be good.

I am excited that I won't have to sweep shavings everyday... washing my sheets now..they are covered from Luna. I don't know what that silly girl was doing, but she covered my bed today!

If you take out the fleece daily and shake it out in the backyard the poop doesn't get so bad.

Now that I have moved all 9 of my chins into my bedroom I am finally switching to fleece! There is no way I could manuever the shopvac into my room and between the cages and wall so I'm really looking forward to no more shaving piles on the outside of cages. I have a digger girl too--so poor GiGi will have no cage to dig or rearrange!

Maybe you could get her a box filled with some fleece scraps she can dig in..I have found that mine will dig in anything, from the shavings to the hay or even their fleece..:thumbsup:
