Alright so I let Kingston out for about 45 minutes of playtime in my room, when he returned to his cage I shut the cage doors and laid down for bed. I noticed he was laying really squeezed tightly in between his house and his shelf.

I thought that was strange, but I tried to ignore it, then he squeezed himself in between his house and the bars of his cage, and then he laid flat on his side on his marble tiles.

When he laid down it concerned me bc he rarely lays down, so I turn on my lights and his ears are just as red as can be!!! I have a digital thermometer by his cage and it read 65, and its not humid here.

I opened my window (its about 61* outside) and he's up and about again running in his cage.

Did he get too hot from playtime? I'm not sure how much he got at his old home, should I just do shorter playtimes until he gets "in shape"?

:/ I'm not sure what to do, could he just be really tired?

I noticed when I first got Turbo (all of a month ago!) his ears would get very red during playtime after just a few minutes, and I put a marble slab, frozen then wiped down to get moisture off, as a part of his circle he did around the bathroom. It won't reduce core temperature, but it certainly seemed to help with him. After a few weeks, I didn't even bother. He's now much more active and energetic, with less overheating problems, than he was just that short period of time ago. :) Just keep an eye on him during his runs, if you see red ears, perhaps cuddle with him in front of the AC unit for a minute and he'll thank you for it. :)

Sometimes chins overdo it during playtime and overheat themselves from all the romping. If I notice one of the chins seeming to get hot, back into the cage they go. You can try reducing his playtime a bit.

Same thing happened to me last night haley. My mosaic "finally" came out for playtime and after about 30 - 40 minutes his ears were red. He hadnt been out for several days and was out longer than usual. Soon as I noticed his ears.........back he went!

You know I never noticed that in my boys. Most of their playtime is about 20-30 every other day and sometimes over an hour once a week when I clean or rearrange their cage. If Kingston is really active during his playtime, then I'm sure that could be it as others have said. How is he doing now?

He's doing alright, he was up throughout the night I kept checking on him and then this morning he was asleep. I have a vent in my room on the ceiling where the AC comes out but we usually keep it off at night because its been getting cold. Usually I let him play in the bathroom (all stone tile) so maybe he's just used to his playtime being cooler but I built a cardboard wall so he could play in my room again. Once I opened the window he perked right up.
He gets very hot very easily it seems, when it got into the 90s a couple of weeks ago it was 68-70 in my room and he laid down on his tiles quite a bit. I may have to move him over to the boyfriends when it gets hot again (I can only keep him in my room at my house, and when the house is 65* my room is always a couple of degrees warmer) but at Charlie's he can live right by the AC and no complaints from my cheap father. + Charlie only lives 2 blocks away and I'm over there all day. Now I'm rambling lol.

i noticed the pink ears more with the mosaics than the standards, cause his ears are grey i cant usually tell when he is overheated.

Kingston's ears are a really dark gray, but they were almost red at the base last night.

This was how he was squishing himself like 10 seconds after being put back in his cage after playtime. I know some chins sleep like that but usually he sleeps in his tube but hunched over standing, never really laying down.

I have a video, I was going to post and ask if he was just tired but you can't see his ears, so that's just a still frame. I'll shorten playtime and see if he still gets too hot.

So this is exactly what he does after playtime, tried to get a picture of the thermometer, but its fuzzy. It was 65-66* and he just gets back in his cage and plops down, wont come out or anything. Usually he does this on his tile but last night he did it on his shelf.

((disclaimer: If anyone recognizes that lovely plastic hook hammock, don't worry it was just sitting there, I use it to cover his cage doors at night because he stops biting them then, I have a fleece hammock with proper hardware.))

he is so cute lying there...giving you that evil eye like saying stop taking pictures of meeeee >.< (like the face the monkey's making)

Petra will do that after playtime every once in a while, if she does I give her 1/2 a raisin to keep her blood sugar up. After the raisin she usually perks right back up. So it could just be low bloodsugar or he's just exhausted and wants a rest.

Yeah, when I took those pictures I just left him to see what happened, he was fine. Usually I give him an icepack wrapped in a bandanna and he lays on it, but he seemed OK last night. Sometimes he rolls on the tile or wood. I dunno. He's weird.

Haley, you are too "Funny" showing the thermometer!! I have 2 of my 3 chins that do that after play time. They like to pass out and get up in a bit. You temperature is just fine for him. Mine have been in warmer conditions. You just don't want it close to 75-80. I have a wall mounted one that i marked with permanent markers the safe range and the too hot range. But, they do best when they stay in their own home atmosphere. And, little kingston's got it made with you--you're cage looks cosy as heck!!hehe
