Is it recommended to take your chin to the vet for just a general exam? My girls are about 5 months old. Starting to really get used to me handling them. Just wasn't sure if it'd be too stressful on them to take them to strange place. Or if it'd be better to do it now, just in case something comes up later.

I don't take mine to the vet unless I absolutely have to. Vet trips cause a lot of unnecessary stress, and it's much easier to just learn the warning signs for each illness on here. Once you know what to look for, you'll know when to go. If you haven't seen it yet, I would definitely check out this thread to find a knowledgeable chinchilla vet in your area. Since most vets aren't available 24 hours each day, it would be a good idea to find an emergency vet as well. As a general rule, if they're eating, drinking and pooping, they're fine. Enjoy them! :))

Ok, thanks! There's a vet not too far from me that sees chinchillas & I've heard great things about her. I'm used to dealing with dogs & cats for vet visits so wasn't too sure.

I can see going for a 1st time chin owner visit-used to get to know the vet and become a patient of record, have the chin looked over, might not be a bad idea.
