I've personally never seen this before.

I have a chin here that a friend of mine had, she didn't adjust well so I moved her back here and she's on malo watch. If I hadn't seen it myself I'd never have thought this was going on, but the girl is in with some growers of mine in my office, and she would sit on the shelf by one of the food dishes. A young female of mine will come up and pluck out some of her hip fur... Not lose fur or anything like that, literally pluck it out making her look a bit rough.

So I put a hidey jar in there for the foster girl and she loves to sit in there, I thought good, that will solve that issue, but now the poor girls HEAD is chewed on! I didn't see it but I'm pretty sure I know who did it!

She does not do this to the others. The foster girl is older and was a female I had in breeding. She has a bad eye, and I suspect malo but I don't feel any lumps, the owner is deciding if they want to xray or what to do. I don't know if she's doing it because she's the "weakest" and is trying to say hey I can pick on you or what. There are two other younger girls in the cage and she doesn't do any of this to them.

I'd love some thoughts on this. I might move the foster and one of the other girls into a different cage ( she loves company and gets depressed without it).

50 views and no comments? Has anyone else ever had a "selective" chewer? I don't know if she's doing it for a dominance thing or what. I've had colonies for years and just never seen anything like this.

The fact that she probably has something wrong with her would be my guess...granted I may not be the most experienced person to chime in but just in general I think animals know when there is a weakness in their herd...

That's what I'm going to mark it up to. I moved her and another female, actually her daughter, to the other cage and left the instigator and another in their cage and the problem seems to have stopped. I guess what's one more cage to clean, lol.
