I came home from work to check on my girls. My boyfriend had previously fed them before I got home. I found some blood in my older girl's cage, a few drops and maybe one smudge. I asked him and he had said there wasn't when he fed her. This has happened before but I later found out it was dark urine but this looks like fresh blood. I tried picking her up and examining her but she darted out of the cage and ran around my room. I have white carpeting and noticed she left absolutely no blood. I did get a quick glimpse at her lower regions and didn't see any on her crisp white underside.
I do live in Wisconsin and it is pretty cold and dry here, I think maybe her feet are dry (I know her ears are and I've started using bag balm on them). Does anyone else have this issue?
I'm just very worried, she is eating, pooping, and drinking fine, but I just don't want a second opinion.

Probably dry skin on her feet. It's sooooo cold and dry right now! We have a humidifier running in our living room, which is where the chins are. You can also put some of the bag balm on her feet, or get Blue Kote if there are visible cracks. We also cut baths to twice a week max from December to whenever we start to thaw (Marchish). If you use the search at the top of the page, you will come up with a lot of cracked feet posts too, most are similar to yours.

Good luck, and stay warm the next couple days, we're in for a douzy the next couple of days. (-79F windchill predicted in Eau Claire for Monday! Plus we had burst pipes today already)

Yes, dry, cracked bleeding feet are happening at my house too. I use Bag Balm. I also check their feet a couple of times per day to make sure they don't become swollen or infected.

I've been checking her feet a couple times, just dry right now. I hate the dryness of Wisconsin! :(
It's strange though, my other younger lady doesn't have this issue only my older gal.
I'll definitely look into a humidifier, I'm sure everyone here can benefit from that.

Becky, that sounds like no fun :(
Thanks everyone!

Dry ears and feet over here too.

You might keep an eye on the younger girls feet also, just when checking the others feet. That way if you notice the getting dry you can apply bag balm and avoid the heart attack blood spots in the cage gives us all.

becky - blu-kote for dry feet? Is that only after they've cracked and bleed?

It's not just in the US with this dryness, I thought I woke up to a murder scene a couple of days ago, turned out, Gumby had cracked feet and smudged the blood onto his paw, I took him to the vet cause I thought he hurt his paw. I got some antiseptic wipes and silversulf cream and metacam and a 200 US vet bill cause they needed to do blood tests on him in order to use the metacam, since he's already 8.
So now, all 4 of my chins are getting bag balm on feet.

I have been watching both of them like hawks. Thanks everyone for the input <3!!!! My little lady is doing much better and I've found no more blood.

****oo, yep after they're cracked and bleeding. Luckily I've never had to use it on my boys, but I have in the past with rats.

Nerk, glad she's better!
