I'm all for freecycle, I request and give things... I'm currently cleaning my kitchen and have four large boxes of stuff...

I posted looking for some certain pans and it was "denied" because I didn't put location in the title... I was like are you serious?! There are like six locations I can pick up at all listed in the message... but they let people who whine about how their life is so hard and they just moved and they have twenty kids and are having another one and they need food for their kids and puppy post. Because we should all give them a puppy when they can't feed their own kids... or the repeated I want a puppy, I want to give a puppy, two weeks later, I want a puppy...

I have never gotten a gosh darn thing from freecycle. I have had a few things I was really interested in, like yesterday I saw someone's ad for a pet gate. I responded with a very nice message, and it was already spoken for, I guess.
We already have one, but it would be helpful to have another.
Once, someone posted a wanted ad for scuba gear. I was in shock, lol. That stuff is expensive!

The concept is good but in actual fact, I find it annoying. Most of the people on it are stocking their yard sales, or want everything delivered and set up for them and of course everyone has a big long sob storey.

There is one woman who has requested every single thing I've ever offered. If I offer 10 things, she wants them all.

No shows drive me nuts. Seriously, why ask for something if you don't plan to come get it.

I also find it interesting how on occasion the TAKEN post will show up 2 seconds after the OFFER. How can it get taken before it's even posted. Well actually I know how.

I've found Freecycle useful on the occasions I've actually used it. I've given things away and gotten things (recently I got an exercise bike -- and no, I didn't actually post a request for a bike). However, unless I'm actually looking for something or wanting to give something away, I don't browse the postings. Many of the "wanted" postings are annoying -- people asking for expensive items like cars, PS3's, iPods, etc.

Overall, I think Freecycle is a good concept, but like all other nice services, there are idiots out there who will try to misuse it.

I don't use freecycle but my daughter does. She has given and gotten several things on Freecycle. Sometimes she gives away toys or clothes her daughter has outgrown. She has gotten some kitchen items and children's items on Freecycle. She has mentioned a few "no shows" or dealing with annoying people but she has had some great successes, too.

I've never used freecycle either but theres this radio show the county does everyday and people call in with stuff they are giving away, selling, or looking for. There is a lot of people who will call, get directions, say I'll be there to look at it so and so time on so and so day, then you dont make plans for that time/day and they dont even come out.

I'd imagine freecycle is like that too

Usually I give them one chance to show up... and I don't wait around for people. I tried that before. So I just leave it at the end of the drive and say if you want it... pick it up.

There is some lady who always posts looking for "animals and cars" for her kids... Today someone posted looking for PET FOOD... or left over freezer meat... needless to say I just deleted and moved on before I got too angry.

There was one lady on mine who asked for a German Shepard and the next week asked for a cage for said Shepard. they also asked for food, collar and leash and toys for said Shepard. If you cant afford the animal why bother in the first place.

In general my freecycle is great. I once asked for some junk towels, got some and I have asked for some baking pans (for litter boxes) and got those too. I also picked up a timber hut hide away. I have given away a ton of stuff and only had one no show. The only thing that has annoyed me, happened just last week. A girl posted for a free large ferret cage, so I jumped on it! Who doesn't want a free cage, well then she emailed me and offered me another smaller cage as well. I was super excited about the smaller cage thinking it would be a great "in case" cage and that I would still pick up the larger cage and donate it. She told me I was welcome to both cages and she would clean them up. So I head out the next day in the morning like she asked me to. Only when I get there only the large one was there and it is covered in ferret poop. It is not that I want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but come on! This thing was COVERED! I got poop all over my hands and clothes, at least she could have warned me to bring gloves, paper towels etc. Poop also got in my trunk, yuck! She said she was going to clean it, which I didn't expect her to, but she was the one who said she would, and I guess I am just a sucker and believe people when they say they are going to do something. I mean at least warn people, "Free Ferret cage, needs a good cleaning" or something, you know? And the smaller cage, that really annoyed me honestly. I emailed her after I picked up the big one, and thanked her, and mentioned that the smaller one was gone and she replied that someone else must have taken it. Now there is no way for me to be 100% sure but just something about it all rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like she decided to let someone else have the smaller cage, I mean why would someone have just taken it? Again, I wish she had just been honest and said "I changed my mind and let someone else have it" so then I wouldn't have felt let down when I didn't see it there. I really wanted the smaller cage :( I ended up taking the big cage and cleaning it (now I remember why I don't have ferrets) and then offered it for free on craigslist, so the person that picked it up from me didn't have to worry about getting ferret poop all over themselves and their car.

Ash, yes they were looking for free pet food, or old meat to use as pet food for their dogs and cats.

Some people want rather extravagant things. I mean seriously if I have a car that runs.. I'm not going to give it away... if nothing else I can get a hundred or two out of it at the scrap yard...

I hate when people act like they deserve it, and on ours if you post asking for too much stuff they tell you to stop or you'll get a strike... which is great, but if you don't GET any of the stuff you ask for... some people are great to work with, but some aren't. And I had a lady pick up a bunch of stuff from me once only to find out after she had it all loaded she was putting it on her garage sale, that upset me, I wanted it to help someone who needed, not be someone else's garage sale items.

My worst experience with Freecycle was one time when I offered an item, a lady contacted me saying she wanted it and then went on to criticize me about the item, which she had never seen and which was basically brand new. I wanted to write her a scathing reply, but in the end I didn't and just deleted her email. I gifted the item to someone else, who actually seemed truly grateful to get it.

I don't get people sometimes.
