sooo I have 2 males and 1 female...all in separate cages...my little girl has gotten kinda fat in the past couple weeks...I can't see how pregnancy is possible because of them being in 3 separate cages but is it possible I missed one of them running up to the cage during play time?? I usually keep VERY tight supervision because I do not want to breed..I know mating happens THAT FAST, but jeez guys...I didn't see a plug in her cage, then again I don't LOOK and I use carefresh so i usually dump the shavings and put new ones in...should I buy a scale?! are there other reasons that chins gain weight quickly? She's been to the vet this year already...I'm really confused...she's eating, pooping, playing and everything normal and I hate to take her to the vet for no reason.

Well I couldn't tell you for sure if she's pregnant or not, but for future reference, I would block off her cage and their cage when the opposite sex is out for playtime. You're just asking for something to happen by not doing so.

well the past month they haven't been near her, I got a bunch of cardboard display things (like you used to do your science fair projects with) and put them together to create "the gauntlet" for them, so now they're not even in the same room for play time, that was just a temporary play area until I got that set up...so now they're no where near each other when they play, I even clean the floor in between each use so that they don't even get around each others poops or dust (I have one in quarantine)...perhaps she just had a growth spurt. She is only about a year and a half old..

It is possible to breed thru cage bars - and even if she isnt pregnant you should own a scale. Weigh your chins every 4-6 weeks so you know their normal weight range. This way if anyone ever gets sick, you'll know right away if their weight is in normal range.

Plus, if she is pregnant, you can track her weight gain, and also you'll need it when kits are born.

I have multiple cages out back, one of them has small "slats" that I can use for babies so at least I have that..good thing I have so many cages..but can anyone recommend a good scale?

I hear lots of recommendations for wal-mart (or something similar) postal scales. I found a 3lb scale for $23, lots of people say they found 5lb digital scales for around $20.
