I am watching this on CNN right now. I cannot believe what a tragedy this is. Especially as a wife of a military member, and with several other family members in the military, my heart goes out to everyone affected. Please be safe. I am just still in shock over this entire story.

Omgosh! What a terrible thing! I agree entirely with President Obama, it's a horrible enough tragedy when we lose men and women in battles over seas, where it is almost expected, but prayed for desperately to not happen, but it's a kick in the stomach when it happens on American soil, on a military base of all places. The one place these men think that they're "safe" a couple crazies come in and start ripping it to shreds....Wow. My heart and prayers go out to everyone involved, and everyone in or around Fort Hood. :(

My sister works at Scott and white. 12 dead 31 wounded. She is having a busy day...

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families affected by this whole tragedy. :( This is so sad.

I just watched this on the news an hour ago. Its so awful. My thoughts are with all the families that had to deal with this ordeal.

This was a horrible day here on Ft Hood. I picked my niece up from school and went to the mall for a Wendy's shake... it was there that I heard the news. It was all over the TVs. My brother went on post to pick up my other niece from daycare, but they had just put post on lockdown... they wouldn't let anyone in or out of the daycare facility. So, then he was stuck on the post lockdown. He spent almost 6 hours sitting around waiting to be able to get his daughter... then an hour in traffic trying to get off of post... they were doing searches on every car that left! Insane, terrible, sad day!!

How awful for your brother and nieces (and you, of course). I'm glad they are all okay.

My brother's best friend and his family are stationed in Fort Hood and last I heard, no one has been able to reach him or his family. I know they still haven't released all the names - due to not being able to notify all families yet I guess? They have confirmed 13 dead, but only released 8 names, and 30-something injured, but only released about 6 names.

Please keep the Greene family in your thoughts and prayers.

Well, apparently the family was notified today that Spc. Frederick Greene was among those killed in the shooting.

He couldn't find any work and had a young and growing family to support so he joined the Army. Wow...

The whole thing is just terrible. I felt horrible when I heard it on the news! I'm glad your neice was ok AmandaDi. What a horrible situation. Your brother must have been sick knowing that his daughter was in there with all that comotion and unable to get her out. Have they said what made the man do it yet? I just don't understand how he could go crazy one night like that.

It's a terrible time, Ann. I'll certainly continue to pray for the family.

My grandson and his family are there. Mike was where the shooting was, but is OK. The lock down stressed out a lot of people, but it certainly makes sense!

Oh my gosh, Ann, that's horrible. I'm sorry....

It boggles my mind that someone like that could move up in the ranks of our military and be able to do something like this...

omg im so sorry. i cant even expressed how shocked i am right now to read this. just yesterday i was browsing the forum and when i saw your post, i thought surely he'd be alright.

things like this are just horrible. actually, there are no words to describe how horrible this is, theyre all just understatements. i havent been keeping up, but do we know if the victims were tied to the gunman in any way? is the gunman still alive? i suppose i need to watch the news again.

i had heard that one of those killed was a young 21 yr old who had just come back from iraq. she was pregnant and going home. there really are no words to describe this event.

Last I heard, then gunman was still alive, but he was in the hospital, unconscious, and is apparently now paralyzed...

Oh no, Ann. I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are still with everyone at Fort Hood in the aftermath of all this tragedy.
