I was wondering if anyone else covered the bottom shelf below their cage, so that the chins don't run across the open bars during playtime? I have 2 FN's and love them but I realized that there's a chance a chin could get their leg caught when they're running along that bottom shelf. I've covered it with a layer of fleece but haven't attached it really because the bars don't have anything between them and the fleece. Anyone have a good solution?

Attached is an old picture of my feisty ferret cage, and on the bottom shelf I have some pine/slate piled up. Looks pretty dangerous, in fact. But anyway that's the shelf I'm talking about if I caused any confusion.

Well my FN came with a plastic shelf that I covered in towels and wrapped in fleece. Does the feisty ferret have a grate sort of bottom??

Yes it does but I just posted that pic because I don't have a pic of my FNs yet.

I have each floor of the FNs covered either with plastic plan/fleece, or bassequipment pans, but I'm talking about the shelf below the bottom floor. I don't have any other plastic pans to use down there. I guess if I lay enough fleece down and attach it somehow, it would be good enough so their feet don't fall between the bars?

Sorry for being lazy here's a pic of what I mean.

Maybe those big black metal paper clips would work with clamping and are u putting the fleece on top of the floor or under? i would go on top

"but I'm talking about the shelf below the bottom floor" You talking about what looks like a storage shelf in that picture u provided? does the cage actually access to it?

Yes I edited my post so you can see a pic, sorry! the storage shelf. I have playtime in the area of the cages so they run across it all the time and it gets me worried.

I just load that shelf up with supplies so they can't go over there... lol. Before I made shelves for my cage I covered up the wire of my second floor with a big piece of cardboard and it worked great.

K I got ya know :D UMM if you have a saw or a measuring tape u can either cut a piece or bring in the size of the are you need cover to home depot or lowes and they can cut u a piece to fit the size and then u can attach them with u screws clamps "dont know the reqal name hehe" i will try to upload a picture of a screw http://www.google.com/imgres?q=u+cl...tbnw=146&start=18&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:18 just click the link it has a picture of the clamps and u can get them at walmart :)

I cut a piece of cardboard from a large box to cover the bars. I measured the inside area between the frame bars, cut the cardboard just a tad bit larger so I could wedge it in tight between the frame bars. That way it doesn't move when they run across it. Solved the problem of the girls occasionally peeing on the cardboard by putting a thick 12 x 16 inch fleece pad on it. Haven't found a pee spot on the cardboard since adding the pee pad.

Carboard sheet attached with zip ties.If peeing is a problem, cover the cardboard with Contace adhesive paper for a cheap fix!;)
