Hello everyone! I'm not a very active member here but I have a question.

I recently got my first degus and the food I'm feeding, my local dealer stopped selling.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can feed them? I know they can eat guinea pig food and chinchilla food (why I'm asking here!). It'd be nice if I could find a rabbit food to feed since I also have rabbits and having one feed for all would be nice! I've heard of people doing it before. But of course if it's not possible, that is okay.

The degus currently get unlimited supply of timothy as well as a variety of herbs and greens (mostly dried). They love hibiscus flowers!!

ETA: Does anyone know if heinold rabbit food is okay?

Any advice would be wonderful! :)

When I had my degus, I did a mix of Mazuri and Oxbow Cavy feed. Though if you're looking for a rabbit food specifically, Nutrena Naturewise is often used for chins and would be the comparable chin food in the mix. I'm not sure that an un-mixed food would give them all the nutrients they need, that's why we always gave them the mix with the guinea pig food - because I have read so many places that say that guinea pig food has some sort of nutrients that the others don't. But, I could be wrong. All of ours lived long, healthy lives though.

Degus need vitamin C in their diet. It is suggested to give them a combination of Oxbow Chinchilla and Oxbow Cavy food.
