Today me and my dad went to the store to get some fleece. I needed some since the fleece I ordered wasn't going to get here on time. I wanted to share what I got and see what everyone thought. Rin is going to be a happy boy/girl (I wish I knew if I was gunna get a boy or girl so I don't have to say both all the time).

I love the pattern and colors, it looks great! Are you going to sew it into something?

I get my fleece at Walmart, they usually have there remnants bin filled with diffrent fabrics. Sometimes you can find a peice big enough without having to buy extra at full price.

A question for all you long time fleece users, are fleece throws the same as the fleece they sell in craft stores? I just bought a couple blankets for $3 and got a ton of stuff out of them all. They are made with 100% polyester, I can't even tell the diffrence between my them and my old fleece.

Well I got enough to make about 3 liners each for every level of my cage for only like $15 which seems like a great deal to me. I would help you with your question if I knew anything about fabrics but I am sorry that I can't help.

I want to sew something like a hammock or something but sadly I not only have nothing to use to be able to sew but I also don't even know how to do it. maybe I can get one of my friends to do it for me though. The fleece I got was mostly just to use as a temporary place holder for the fleece I ordered so as long as I can use it for that I am happy.

It should be the same stuff as long as it says "fleece." The only thing with blanket kits is that most of the time, they're panels, like a really large picture centered on the whole thing.

If you want to make him/her a temporary hammock, you can make a "no-sew" one. Basically you cut a bunch of slits into two pieces of fleece, and tie them together.

This triangle hammock uses a no-sew method (though I'd suggest making it larger for the chinchilla. I think this site shows how to tie the strips together more clearly. It's for a blanket, but the concept is the same.

You can alsouse grommets to hold it together instead. This does require the purchase of a grommet tool and grommets.

And if you wanted to get super fancy, you can make a no-sew cube.

Did you pay full price for the fleece? I've never actually bought it right off the roll, but $15 doesn't seem to bad. Might have to check it out myself now ;)

Sewing is actually a lot easier then you think, all you really need is a needle and thread for hand sewing. It's more time consuming though, but after you flip the hammock inside out, you can't see the stitching or anything.

Javachin- that's what I thought, it being the same thing. Thank you for clearing that up! I bought a cute snowflake pattern and solid color for about $4 each. It was enough to make a tube cover, hammock, pillow, and a liner if I made everything a bit smaller then needed. (Hint, hint, op!)

That will be perfect!!!! thank you so much for telling me about that.

I actually got it while it was on sale.
The full price was $13 a yard
I got it for half that and then some I got for half of the sale price

So I thought I would share an updated picture of Rin's cage with the fleece in it and my horribly made corner hammock that might not even work =(

Awesome! If you're concerned with the corner hammock not being stable enough, I would put it lower to one of the shelves (like 2-3 inches above the bottom or the side shelf) so in case it doesn't work, your new chinnie won't fall 7-8 inches and potentially injure themselves.

Most pet quality chins weigh about a pound (show can get up to 1.5 or more I think). Go in your kitchen and find a can of soup, jar of spaghetti sauce, etc. and put it in the hammock. You want to find something that weighs 500g, 16oz, or 1lb (if it's liquid, 1ml is close enough to 1g, so 500 mL).

Edit: Also, that willow ball you have, if you got it from a pet store, make sure there's not a peanut in it. I was going to buy one from PetSmart, but they all had peanuts in them and I wasn't sure I could get it out without destroying that ball.

I tried pushing down on the hammock and it stayed up so I am not to worried about it right now. it is only temporary anyway. as for the willow ball, it did have peanuts and I took them out with my ninja like skills still keeping it in near perfect condition.
