I finall have done it. Tinkerbell came to me last summer from a great lady, who also gave me her cage and some accessories. Tink is 3 going on 4 years old and has never had an issue with the ramps, but I had been warned that I should take them out for her safety. I tried taking them out and Tinkerbell seemed lost without them so I replaced them. But I have read so many stories here of chins suffering broken legs, for different reasons, and thought why leave the ramps in, as is, and possibly have something happen to Tink?

I finally purchased some fleece and hand-sewed them in place over the ramps so I can be at ease now that the ramps won't be the cause of some incident in the future. It just feels good knowing that you've done something to help keep your beloved pet safe. So I thought I would share with you guys. I've heard so much discussion about ramps, so I just wanted to share that you can keep them in place, but yet make them safer.

Now, on to fleece covered tubes! :)

Ok, I grabbed my camera, sooner than I thought! The ramps aren't made to be beautiful, but functional. My husband was shopping with me, and if he hadn't been there, I would have gotten a nice print!!! :)

If the cage was set up the same when you took the ramps out it may be she was lost because it was too high for her to feel comfortable jumping? I can see a need for ramps with chins that have special needs for sure but in general, chins love top hop so I feel lots of ledges placed around the cage for them to hop around on is much more stimulating than a ramp. To each their own though and you did a nice job making them safer :).

I think she was lost because I only have two shelves for her and there was nothing lower for her to jump onto to get to the higher shelf. If I add more ledges, which I intend to someday, then I'll end up taking out the ramps. But for now, she has a safer ramp until that day comes. She also has a playpen that she has full time access to which has a lot of boxes for her to jump on to. But compared to some chins, Tink is not a big time jumper.
