Ive had my chinchilla going on five years. For about three years he had a friend with him, but since his friend was signifigently older they passed.

I was wondering if he would benifit from me getting him another friend.

It has been about two years. Would he still be sociable?

He does get a good amout of human attention every day.

Hes a male, about 5 years old

The 2 year span really depends on your male. Let me tell you a little bit about Jasper:

I got Jasper, and another chinchilla Digit back in 2001. Just about two years later (2003ish), Digit passed away. I tried many different chins over the years, but he hated every single one of them. In 2005 I got a rescue in, rehomed him. 2007 he came back, he was placed again. 2008 he came back to rescue yet AGAIN- I deicded at that time I would NOT adopt him out again, and he would remain with me as a pet. I decided to try him with Jasper, thinking there was no way it would work... About 8 months later, Jasper and Raisin are still together and Jasper couldn't be happier. They cuddle, jump around the shelves together, eat together..

So it took me a good 6? years to find him a chin he accepted..but once I did, he couldn't be happier.

Thats good advice. I hope I can find him a friend sooner than 6 years though haha.

I think that it wouldn't hurt to try as long as you can and will have a 2nd set up in case it doesn't work out. I think the issues happens too often that people get a 2nd or new chin and when things don't go swimmingly they find one reason or another to re-home them (not saying anything about you-just in general).

If he seems lonely and you are weary about the 2nd chin you could always get him a cuddle buddy. You should also take into consideration that he may be bonded to you and therefore not need/want a new chin friend :winkers:

I think that if I find a chinchilla that personality I think might work with Zeke (and me!) I'm going to go for it. I do have two extra cages and lots of love! Ive been reading up on how to introduce chins, but if you have some tips from experiance I would love to hear them.
