It doesn't look like fungus around his eye to me. It looks like messy fur from an eye that's a little runny or has an infection. It could have a little fungal outbreak there and because of the moisture it definitely has a higher risk of fungus breaking out around the eye. Maybe someone can see something I can't...

UGH!!! so you guys think the second vet was incorrect? i mean... the fungus scrape did come up negative... and the xrays came up totally clear. i think i might begin to think that he really does just have a "weak eye".

also, should i keep giving him the tinactin baths a few more times, just to see if anything helps?

new addition to the story. i just found out the bedding my breeder gave me is pine bedding.. but NOT kiln dried. im picking some up on my lunch break and changing it immediately. hopefully this is what has been causing the problem. i hope it didnt cause any serious problems. im so bummed.

I just had my chin to the vet for a runny eye and she said she has allergies. Just something to think about.

What is Roy using as bedding? I'm just shocked that Roy isn't keeping up with his chins. I know him and I'm just surprised with the whole situation. I know he cut down on the number of chins just recently.

it was regular pine bedding, VERY strong smelling. all of the chins are fed alfalfa instead of timothy hay, because he gets it cheaper, and he makes his own food and includes sunflower seeds in it. i mean.. i know alot of people will disagree with what he is using... but if its working for him, and its what his chins are used to... then maybe thats fine... im not complaining about him.. just really bummed that the needs i KNOW my chin needs to live a happy and healthy life arent being met. im changing almost everything, and im really hoping he becomes much healthier.

With regular pine having such a strong smell it very well could be causing the eye issue, though you would think it would be causing both eyes to water.

thats what im thinking too. Amberlin gave me som blue cloud the other day too... and when comparing it to the dust he gave me... it felt like sand.. from the beach. i think there are many things that could be causing this... im just going to give it some time.
someone mentioned in my last post that a badly bred chin just had a sensitive eye... that might also have something to do with it.
im really bummed. :(

Awww. Don't be bummed. You will eventually get to the bottom of it and he will be good as new. :D

When you went to the vet, did they give you any antiobiotic eyedrops? I know they said it wasn't as infection, though I am curious to know how they came to that conclusion. You may want to request some drops from your vet (and since you were already there you most likely will not have to come back in) just to make sure nothing is going on with the eye. It might just fix the problem.

Also, yeah...the sandy dust.... Ouch. That could also be a problem. I wonder if maybe he has a piece of sand in his eye or something. How seriously did the vet look in it? Did he use a scope? I had a tiny piece of metal stuck in my eye about 2 weeks ago that you couldn't see with the naked eye. The second he looked in it with the scope there it was on my cornea.

its just hard for me not to be, because i know what he deserves, and he wasnt getting it.
i wasnt at the vet, but my husband is just as ocd about things as i am. haha
the vet put drops in the eye to look for any scratches, he pushed on the tear duct? to make sure there wasnt a blockage, im not sure about the scope... i will ask my husband when he gets off work. he also did a scraping, and a second set of xrays... all with no real conclusion. he just said it was irritated, and a fungus. a little discouraging if you ask me.

Well, just think of it like this. While he may not have been getting what he deserved before, but that's what you were here for. You now have him and are doing everything in your power to get him back to 100%, and darn sure making him happy in the process. :)

Just keep up the good work, and keep working on the little changes to see what works for him and what doesn't. Unfortunately we usually have to lose a bit of money in the beginning to make our babies happy. Good quality dust, feed, and bedding that won't be irritating can do a world of difference.

I have a girl that I've had for 4 years with a continual weepy eye. Isis was examined when she first came in and that vet said her one eye opening was smaller than the other. She looked a bit off last month so we went to the exotics vet that we've been using at the rescue. She had a thorough examination, xrays, a thorough tooth and eye exam under anesthesia and there is nothing that should be causing this, other than one eye opening is smaller than the other. Isis' eye looks better when she has frequent dust baths.

thank you :) im really trying to be the best mommy i can be.. its all just a big guessing game in the beginning i have learned.
i really dont mind spending money, as i have always had animals and i prefer comfort and health, over saving money. my husband and i have no children, and most likley never will (unless something drastic happens to change society)... we have noone else to spend our money on, and its not like we want to to buried with our savings with we die. haha. i guess that sounds morbid.

that makes alot of sense. its all a big process of trial and error.
how often do you give her dustbaths? im going to try give him frequent, and see how it goes. if it doest go well i will space them out even more then i am now, and see how that works.

I dust 2 - 3 times a week.

Roy has got another ad running now as usual. He's a regular on Craigslist with his multiple names and cities (never photos, though). I've never met him but written to him a couple of times. At least we can let those on this forum know what they may be getting themselves into if they purchase from him.
