Fighting vs Playing- Chasing

Sometimes at night, I see my chinchillas frantically chase each other around the cage. There may or may not be dominance humping and kacking involved.

I guess I am wondering, is it possible for chinchillas to chase one another just for fun, or is it usually because they are fighting?

My boys chase each other for fun occasionally, but it's rare. The girls never do.

If there is dominance humping and kacking occurring with the chasing, I would keep a close eye on them. This could turn into a full blown fight.

Chasing from my experience usually isn't a good thing.
