I managed to find a store in my little Canadian city that is able to get the Midwest Ferret Nation in for me. YEAH!

Now I know many of you have made modifications to the cage. What are the top priorities that need to be done to make it more chinchi friendly?

What type of wood do you use to make the shelves? I have seen some have the fleece liners. Does this replace the need for shavings? If so, how often do you change them? Is the pan for the top floor removable?

Thanks!

I took the ramps out, they can break legs. If you have seen the thread with all the pics you can see how many people have modified them very nicely. I think it is called Ferret Nation Club.. the thread

The wood is KD Pine. I also took out all the shelves and replaced with wooden ones and leaper ledges etc.

I love the pans from Bass Equipment, they help keep pooh in the cage a little better then the shallow plastic pans.

The liners... some people still use a glass pan with shavings for the chins to potty in, and others just let them potty on the fleece, more of a personal choice.

she pretty much got it all. a wheel would be nice, a lot of shelves and toys pretty much thats it.

I am so excited. I just ordered the FN today. It should be in next Tuesday. I will be getting my chin tomorrow. She is a rescue and hasn't been handled much lately. I figure I will keep her in a little cage with a hideout so she can settle a bit. I won't be able to make lots of mods at first as I just spent a fortune on toys, food, bedding and supplements such as the acidophilus. I can't wait to get her. Can you believe she is 7 months and still has no name. :( My eldest DD wants to call her Chrysanthemum....Chrissy for short. Here is a preview pic of the little girl.

Aww, your new girl looks very cute. I see that her current owners have one of those honey seed treat sticks in the cage with her... I hope she won't have any digestive problems from that. She looks very young... and she has an adorable face!

I am kinda worried about that. I have been told that she was given 10-15 raisins a day at times and was also fed some dandelion treats...which she LOVED. I found some in the pet store today and noticed that the first ingredient was sugar. The fat percentage was 22%. EEK!

I picked up some acidophilus and just hope that she is okay.
