Hello all,

I have two 14 day old chin babies with their mother. We had one of those super pet cheapies from Petco and modified it to make sure babies can't get out. We forgot one area and the babies escaped. They are such little escape artists..LOL. I need to get a new cage and FAST. These babies are so agile!! They are already climbing up shelves and are full of energy!!! I found a FN 142 in great shape on Craigslist. Do you think the baby chins could escape from one of these? The bar spaces do look MUCH smaller than my superpet cage and I know ChiChi would love this cage....

What do you guys think?

Thanks :)

If you do get the cage, some people have wrapped the FN in chicken wire to make them baby safe until they get large enough.

Thanks for the replies. I know the FN142 is a great cage, I would love to have it for when the babies are older. Chichi and Tia will be housed together, so that would be a good cage for them. I don't know what I'm gonna do yet.

ok, just read on these forums that the Critter Nation cage is baby proof? The bar spacing is much smaller. Is this true?

Yes the critter nation has 1/2" spacing and is baby safe. Maybe it is a critter nation you see on craigslist if you say the bars look closer together than your super pet cage? The CN bars are horizontal and FN are vertical

When our chins were younger they can jump straight through the bars, even though it didn't look like it. Nothing like watching an unexpected escapee sitting on top of your tv.
So we just ended up putting some chicken wire wrapped around the cage for about a month. Not idle but you only need it temporarily.

I have been chicken wire shopping lately and thought I'd shout out it comes in different sized holes, like 1/2 inch on up to two inches. Get the 1/2 inch size

I have ferrett nation 142's and LOVE them! I have mine blocked off in the middle so it's like having 2 cages in one! I have all ages of chins including a 6 week old baby girl. She does not get out. I made my own plexiglass pan with 4 inch sides also because the ones that come withthe cages didn't work to keep the bedding in!
Maybe you could keep all shelves out of the cage and get plexiglass cut to fit and put super high edges around the inside until babies get a bit older?
I'm not sure how good a deal you found on craigs list, but I just one brand new on amazon for 145.99.
