Female in Heat Question

Is it normal for one of my male chinchillas to not want to eat much while one of my females is I'm guessing in heat?

Twice now my boy (who is probably a year- year and half-ish) has become COMPLETELY obsessed with one of my female chins that I'm guessing is in heat. During this time he will not hardly eat anything and his poops have been extremely small and hard so when this happens I hand feed him crushed pellets, water, and acidophilus mixed together. The first time it only lasted for like 2 days- and it started again yesterday so I'm hand feeding him now again. But is this typical of a young male chin?

Some males behave this way when they know a female is in heat. Be sure he is drinking water. You might try giving him some timothy hay.

Alright thanks- yeah I think he's drinking water. Either way he's back to normal today- normal poop quality and quantity. This is just the second time he's done this so I was curious.
