One of my boys has a very bad eye that is completely crusted shut. A greenish goo is surrounding the closed lid and white crust is on the fur surrounding the eye, I'm assuming from grooming too much. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he's acting completely normal. I'm making a vet appointment for him tomorrow to go in sometime this week. In the mean time, is there anything I can do to help him? I know for some issues, human antibiotics can be prescribed in small doses. Is this the case in this situation? I also know pink eye was in my family this week. Could he have gotten that from one of us? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Warm compresses to see if you can get the eye open. Don't force it. Gently wipe until it opens. Green is infection. It isn't from grooming. Chins don't get eye infections from grooming. It could be a scratched cornea. He could have gotten dust in it. It's hard to say. First thing is get the eye open, see what's going on, and possibly get him to the vet.

Yes, pink eye can be passed to your chinchilla. He will need to see a vet for sure to make sure he hasn't scratched his cornea while pawing at his itchy eye and they will prescribe some drops to use, if that is what it is. If he has scratched his cornea, he may need an ointment to help it heal.
