I hope I am putting this in the right section (the supplies half). If not sorry :confused3:
I would also like to apologize ahead of time if there is already a forum for this.

Anyways! I live in Florida, and hurricanes are a major concern and common worry. Every year the season begins right when it ends it seems! So I wish to create a supply kit for my chins in case of a hurricane that will require evacuation. I own 3 female chinchillas and 1 male hedgehog and would like to know what I need to have and what other owners have. Also I was wondering if I should have the chinchillas all separate during travel or if that may stress them even more?

Thank you!

For my hedgies I have a carrier, extra fleece and hedige bags, extra food and water bowls, extra food (which needs to be replaced when it expires), a gallon of water, and those hand warmers that you shake (lots of them). Basically the bare minimum - shelter, food, water, and warmth!!

For my chin I have a carrier, fleece liner, extra hay, extra food (needs to be replaced when expired), and a gallon of water, a water bottle, a food dish, and a pile of apple wood sticks. Once again the bare minimum - shelter, food, water and chewable items.

I like to keep my items inside my carriers that way everything is together in case it is needed. And then when I take my chin or hedgies somewhere I just need to remember to put everything back in when i get back :) Oh and I should add that the supplies would probably only last a few days (I am assuming that I would have to leave in a hurry and then be able to stop somewhere to re-stock my supplies).

I'm not sure on separating the chins - are they usually all together? Hopefully someone with more chin experience will come along and answer that one!

this topic is definitely one that everyone should think about...regardless of where they live. we all need to have emergency kits for any occasion: hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes....anything that could cause us to go without power or leave us needing to find some place to stay.

there have been a few threads on this topic (pretty much 1 or 2 every year). this was last years:

i also know that there's a thread about emergency kit items. im having trouble finding that though.

For me the concern is wildfire. I am trying to figure out what cage to get for evacuations. I am trying to decide between a ryerson 2 hole carrier and the "chinchilla cubbyhole" from Martin's cages.

Thoughts???
