I was wanting to see if anyone would be so kind as to post some pictures of:
Light Ebonies; Medium Ebonies; Dark Ebonies; Extra Dark Ebonies.
I'd really like to be able to see the contrast between them so I can have reference in the future. So far I've only been able to find 'hetero ebony' and '**** ebony' and I'd like to see all of these.
PS: I know **** ebony is extra dark, I just can't remember what hetero is. Thanks a billion.

Hetero and **** are basic genetics.

Heterozygous pretty much means you have two different mutations (can be from a standard parent) in the animal.
Homozygous means you have two of the same exact genes, either standard or a mutation.

I won't help on the pictures, but just figured I would point that out.

Oh I know =P I just couldn't remember, which I was thinking that medium ebony or light ebony (I think it's medium, I can't remember) is hetero...My memory sucks.

Light, Medium, Dark and Extra Dark can all be heterozygous..

2 true "****" Ebs can produce extra dark, dark, medium, and light ebs, as well as standards, theoretically. At least this is how I understand it from a genetics stand point. I've never bred two ebs together.

Ohh, alright, misunderstanding on my part. I've not messed around with ebonies enough to know, or researched far into it enough. Thanks for clearing that up :)

This is my Teddy Bear, I know he's an ebony, but I don't know what kind.

I wanted to post pics of mine but for some reason photobucket is coming up as mobile and very very small!!

Teddy Bear looks like a dark TOV ebony.

I only have one ebony in my herd. She is an extra dark ebony. Here is a picture of Jenova! (Excuse the scruffiness, she had just given birth in this picture!)

IMO, I find it incorrect to label extra dark ebonies as "****" ebonies. There is no way to prove that the animal is homozygous for the ebony gene. The gene itself is complicated; it's possible it is composed of several genes and multiple loci. The only way to distinguish ebonies is by their phenotype, light - extra dark. And they would all be hetero ebonies. That said, it is still popular to label extra dark ebonies as **** ebonies. While not completely correct in the genetics sense, it's just how some people distinguish the extra dark ebony.

I just like calling them light ebony, medium ebony, dark ebony, or extra dark ebony. I think saying hetero and **** ebony complicates it a bit.

Ebonies are so pretty! If we get another chinnie, it's going to be an eb. I think the extra darks are so cute!

I'd love to have an extra dark ebony, but they're almost impossible to find in my area and as soon as one goes up for sale, it's gone!

Here a some of out ebonies:

1st picture: Medium Ebony male (also a sc)
2nd Picture: Tov Ebony Female
3rd Picture: All black Hetero ebony female ( ooks **** ebony but is not)
4th Picture: Light Ebony male (also a sc)

Very beautiful fur kids Chingal! Thanks for posting those, it really helps me to see the contrast in shade.

Here's my girl Missy. She is an extra dark ebony. She's a little rough in this picture. We took it as soon as we got home with here. She took a dust bath later that day. The second picture was taken several months later and after the birth of her litter.

His face and back are much darker than the rest of his body, which is why I suggested he was TOV. Unless the lighting or camera flash is playing tricks on me and he is the same color all around, he's a dark TOV ebony.

Even the great mysterious ebony cannot defy the basic laws of genetics, any True homozygous trait, will always produce 100% true homozygosity when it is crossed with true homozygosity. Homozygous animals will always breed true for that trait.
