Hey everyone
I just got a new chinchilla last Thursday. I ordered Blue Cloud dust for him the next day (Friday) but due to the snow storms on the East Coast, I still haven't received it yet! It's already been a week...

Should I keep waiting for the dust or settle for lower quality pet store dust to give him his first bath?

If its been more than a week or so and he's looking pretty greasy and you really don't think it'll get there soon then get some at a pet store. People say Kaytee is fine and LM farms is alright.

I've been using Kaytee for Shelly and it is fine. Then again she gives herself a bath in potting soil when I'm not looking.

I dust less in the winter because it is dryer and less humid in my house. I would say about twice a week. In the summer, when it's very humid, I give them an extra dust bath per week.

I would wait. It should be there soon. Unless he's looking especially greasy, he should be fine. I wouldn't waste my money on expensive but poorer quality dust from the petstore.

It's the opposite here: humid in the winter because of all the fog and rain and super dry in the summer. I have to dust my chins more often in the winter and only a couple times a week in the summer.

I give dust baths once a week here in the winter as it's very dry with the heat on in the house. In the Spring is when I do baths 2 and sometimes 3 times due to the humdity in the air. Chins who are pet chins and not show chins can probably go longer between baths as their fur matters only to you LOL!

When is it going to get there? If your chin looks like it needs it you could go and get some from the pet store. I have some and use it for back up on the rare occasion i run out. Its not going to hurt your chin it just doesnt work as well as blue cloud
