My chinchilla has extremely dry feet. They are flakey and sometimes very red and raw looking. I thought he might be getting too many sand baths, but I only let him have one every day or two. And his fir is separating which I think usually means they have too much moisture... so I'm very confused as to what I should do!!
His ears are also quite dry, but not nearly as bad as his feet. I thought it could be his shavings so a couple of months ago I switched to newspaper pellets but not much of a change was noticed. He doesn't have wire boards to walk on, just wood planks so that shouldn't be irritating him either.
Is there something I should be putting on his feet to stop the irritation?
Thanks!!
