Today, my mom got a letter in the mail. I knew right off the bat when I saw a Canadian stamp, but no return address. Scam. I opened it up (Yeah, I know, bad me.) to inspect it because when mom gets excited, no stopping her. The letter goes something along the lines of:
Check for $3,530.00. Mom 'gets' $300.00 as a 'salary', and has to spend $100.00 as a consumer at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Macy's, JC Penny or Target. Then, she has to send $2,980.00 back to 30082 Brickyard Drive, 15th Floor Madera, CA 93648, the Global Consumer Services Inc. It even goes so far to say that the service charge by MoneyGram / Western Union for sending this money will be $150.00. But act fast! This offer expires APril 28th.
Yes, the address I'm supposed to send payment to is in California, USA, but the stamp on the envelope is Canadian? So believable!
Now, my scanner isn't working, but I'll be sure to scan this (Block out my address o course) tomorrow afternoon once we get this issue fixed.

Sadly, people are uninformed (the word 'ignorant', meaning 'not informed' just sounds too harsh) and fall for this. There should be a post-marking showing where it came from!!

My grandmother fell for something like this a few years ago. I felt so bad for her. After she realized she was duped it was several years before she told anyone because she was so embarrassed and upset at herself. :(

I have been getting sooooooooooooooooooooo many of these scam emails lately. I am getting at least one a day.

My boyfriends grandma was just scammed by someone calling and saying "Hey Grandma I'm in jail send me money!!" and she almost lost $5000 .

I've heard about the phone call in jail scam.

Basically they call and say hey, Grandma I'm in jail and I need bail money, and they say "who is this?" and they say who do you think it is? Then they say "James" or whatever name and it goes on from there. Very said that people are so deceiving.

I've heard about this several times. Sometimes they target older people in retirement homes that are suffering from memory issues, they act like they are a grandchild, and get them to send them money. Really sad :(

We've been getting a lot of stuff in the mail lately. People are more and more desperate for money right now.
