Ok, so Daisy and Oreo got into a fight last week (long story) and Daisy had to have stitches and a tube put in on her shoulder. The tube was removed on Friday (the tube was to make sure that the wound closed from the inside out, not the other way around). Today I noticed a baseball sized fluid pocket on her shoulder above the incision. Brought her into the vet and they drained it- 200mL of fluid came out and more is still slowly draining.
They put a vet scrub on her to prevent it from dripping all over (we were joking that she is officially a member of the vet team lol)- but it is soaking through and has soaked onto her dog bed.

We asked about wraping it but he and I both agreed that the area would be difficult to wrap because of where it's at. I may have to get creative though. We are trying to lesson the amount that actually soaks through the scrub and onto whatever she is laying on.

I can experiment and figure out how differen't ways work, but is there anything you've found that works well for wrapping shoulders? I would assume that dogs are similar to horses in that it's extremely hard to wrap the shoulder area.

When our lab started going after her stitches when we had her spayed and also, when she got cut while hunting and the wound would bleed/drain, we dressed her in one of the kids tees shirts and changed it as needed.

Maybe strap a maxi pad or something of similar size onto it with a few wraps of vet wrap/ACE bandage and then keep a T-shirt on her? You'd have to change it a few times a day, but you'd have absorbency and some slight pressure over the wound itself.

Ahh, females. :) This was also my thought.

What about getting one of those dog walking collars that goes around the neck and another strap that goes behind the front arms. That might give you the framework to be able to attach some type of pad.

That's a good idea, I might see if she'll let me ge one on her. The vet gave us one of their scrubs to put on her, so that absorbed some of it but it soaked through within a short period of time. I managed to get a large gauze pad on it and wrapped it with gauze quite sloppy/creatively. I'll see if it's still draining a bit and if so I'll try the suggestions here.

It has stopped draining and she had her stitches taken out today. I was just checking the area though and it lookes like there is another fluid pocket developing. I hope not... ugh:hair: Will keep an eye on it today and call tomorrow if it's still there/gets bigger.

Sorry your going through this...try and keep your sanity..We used maxis and gauze here once..BUt the kids tees worked best..good luck

She's doing great! It looked like she had a large pocket developing again but the vet wasn't open until Monday (last monday)... so we were going to bring her in then but over the weekend it disappeared! It was weird.

She had her stitches out 1.5 weeks ago and the incision looks great. She's just finishing up her round of antibiotics as a preventative.
