My newest addition, Ashe, shows no interest in his dust bath. He hops in and sits there and hops right back out. He does have a different house than Kunya's too. He really looks like he needs a bath!! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try a different size or shape of duster. Maybe your chinnie feels it's too small or he just doesn't like it. Try adding more or less dust to see if that appeals to him. If it's a covered duster, try an open one or vice versa. Maybe try putting the dust on him with your hands until he gets the hang of it.

How old is Ashe? Some chins take longer to learn how to use it then others.

Well I am not sure, because I got him from Petco....I know it's bad to get a petstore chin because you know nothing about where they came from and age. I just had to have him! I am thinking he is fairly young, maybe 2-3 months?

Ok thanks, all good ideas! I can try a small bowl or glass pan. If not I will dust him with my hand!

Thanks for your help! I hope no one is mad at me for buying him from a petstore, he was there for a little while, a month or so. I went in daily to see him! Plus my brother's friend is a manager there and he kept telling me he was still there! I went in to get some dog treats and he was sitting on top of the water bottle. So I decided to get him and give him a loving, forever home!

Thanks again!!

I'm not mad you got him from a pet store. Pet store chins need loving homes, too, just like any other chin. I know some people disagree but if there was a chin in a pet store I fell in love with, I'd buy it, too. Enjoy him.

Aww thanks so much, eroomlorac! I am enjoying them both! Life is better wth chins!! I am going to try your dust bath idea tonight when it's bath time! Thanks again!!

I use the 1 gallon pickle jars, sometimes smaller ones for kits. [They're free!]
If you take a hesitant one in a jar, I turn it up, and just sprinkle the dust on them, they usually get the idea, real quick!

If you just got him it may take a while for him to feel comfortable to let his guard down and roll. I have a girl here that wouldn't bathe in front of me for the longest time :D.

I agree with the sprinkle suggestion. Also, your profile says you have two chins, maybe you can let him watch the other one bathe. Put them in the same area but separated from each other, maybe by a baby gate or something, and give them each a dust bath. That is how kits learn to bathe when they are young, by watching their mothers do it.

I don't think anyone on here would have a problem with you buying a loving a pet store chinnie. Just no one should breed those animals because you have no information on their background. But eroomlorac is right, even pet store chins need love!

I agree with Abby, chins always need homes and if you save one kudos to you, it's the breeding chins with unknown backgrounds is bad, not owning them :]

Rickman: I love the pickle jar suggestion! I will definately try that!!

Abby: I did try letting him watch Kunya, but no luck! Maybe the spinkle idea will work if the others don't! And thanks for your comment on pet store chins, they do need love too! :)

Thanks again!! I will keep everyone posted!!

He'll get the hang of it eventually Rach! Just keep putting it in there and let him get used to it. GiGi took forever to dust bath and her mom even taught her how to do it LOL!

Thanks!! I am trying to show her (if you read my Ashe boy/girl thread HE is a SHE!) Anyway, I am working with her to show her in my own way I guess...lol. I have a glass cookie jar, the kind with metal lid, so I put some dust in it and set her in and let her move around. I have started to put some dust in my hand while she is the jar and rub her with it, in a "rolling" motion. She just jumps out after a few minutes, but at least her fur is clean. Practice make perfect they say!

I have a few that will not bathe if I am in the room. So for them I put the bath in and leave for a bit...performance anxiety maybe LOL. And don't feel vad about buying from a pet store Ashe now has a loving home.

UPDATE! Ashe just took a dust bath all by herself! She hopped right in and had a nice lil bath! She is beginning to love her chinnie life with me. YAY!! :dance3: She was sooo cute after, she popped her head out and looked at me, like, "hey mom that was fun!" and went back in for another roll in the dust!
