I do like the MCBA shows more. But part if that is that I've only attended one empress show very recently and it might be impart that I'm just more use to MCBA. I can see pros and cons to either show. MCBA you have to take extra time and effert to classify. However you do have lights going against lights and so on. And you have phase champions that add a little something to your animals standings but then there's more effert in getting around the ribbons and breeder points. But for now my option stays but could change given that chance and opportunity to attend more ECBC shows.

I have always liked that MCBA pits the best against the best vs. ECBC the standards show separate from the mutations. As someone who has goals to breed mutations that are comparable with top standards it is better competition for me to show at an MCBA event. Sure, I can beat your tan, but can my tan beat your top standard? :))

I find the Empress show system much less confusing. It wore me out trying to keep up with everything going on at the MCBA show.

I also prefer the standard and mutation shows separate. It's just a personal preference on my part though, so that I don't have to groom all of my standards and mutes the same day for a big show.

I'll still show at both MCBA and ECBC, but my personal preference is for the ECBC show system.

I personally prefer ECBC, I think it's probably that's mostly what I've attended. I do think it's easier. I know that this is just my experience, but in my experiences ECBC has a more strict show. This might be simply because I've attended more ECBC shows, it's possible that the MCBA shows I went to were say a field day or state show, opposed to a state show and a National show which would naturally be stricter judging as you move up the competition ladder.

I think the judging is tougher at MCBA state shows & Nationals and then field days seem to be more of a relaxed learning environment. It could depend on the judge too though. I have only been to one ECBC show and that was just to watch so I really don't have enough experience to compare them to MCBA.

I don't remember how many shows I've been to. A lot, pretty close to an even number of both types I think. For several years we had ECBC and MCBA plus the Cali shows every year. I'd love to do MCBA nationals, it's the only one I haven't been to yet.

I've found both shows have the same general scrutiny level at field days and sanctioned shows. It also really depends on the judges.

Some observations from both:
ECBC
- Classification is much faster
- Smaller shows will be faster because of the faster classification
- Some shows are two days
- Costs are higher because you have to stay the extra day in some cases.
- Judges the best standard and best mute of that show (I've seen a few that shouldn't have taken awards over their colored counterparts at smaller shows).

MCBA
- Classification and paperwork can be a nightmare for new chapters.
- Often confuses the ECBC/NCBC judges that don't judge them often.
- Much more useful for a smaller show as all the animals compete together so you end up with truly the best animal at the end.
- The above especially if you have a bunch of small breeders competing and only have 20 standards to 80 mutations.

Otherwise it's the same ol' same ol' just a different venue. :))

One of these days I would like to attend a MCBA show. I would like to see how this show compares to ECBC

I am the opposite, would like to attend a ECBC show, all I have been to in MCBA shows.

I love the shows so far though.

I have showed a great deal at both MCBA and ECBC shows and both have good and bad points in my opinion. At MCBA I hate classifying, but ECBC now classify s mutations also. In my opinion you need to classify in order to reward people who raise lighter phase animals, which have a great deal to do with improving some mutations. and also smaller breeders can get more recognition for their work to improve with more awards being available. With more awards more people get recognized for doing well, maybe they did not have the very best but they still did well.
This has a lot to do with the judge judging but it happens more at ECBC shows and it just kills me to see a super nice lighter phased standard or even mutation just plain over looked and not even given a second look just because they are light. May be **** nice but will most times never be considered for class champion because the darkness of the others its competing against have more eye appeal, but may not have any better overall quality.

Off topic; I do like extra dark standards with the contrast of the bright white belly and they do have eye appeal, but there was a light standard at the WI show and it was a silver color that was gorgeous. I can't remember what breeder it was, but it was stunning.
