Hercules has recently decided he likes to bark starting around ten thirty at night going on for a few hours. I haven't changed anything in the house so I'm not sure why he is barking. Any ideas?

Yes, I think they do. Sometimes they are calling out for attention, sometimes just to see who's out there. I have 4 girls in one cage and sometimes they kack and when I look at them, they all appear to be sleeping. Who knows.

He's hoping a friend will answer him! Is he lonely at night? Leave a T.V. on in his room!

He sleeps with me in my room. I feel bad if he is lonely! I've thought about getting him a buddy, but, in the petstore they said he was picked on. I doubt they properly introduced them though.

I come over every now and again when he calls, but when I do he just starts running around in his cage like a madman. lol.

lol.

So, leaving a TV on would help entertain him at night? Could I leave it on Mute?

Also, He is in a Ferret Nation Cage right now, If I were to get him a buddy and they didn't get along would he still have plenty enough room to run around in just the top half?

My boy Bryson has "trained" me to cuddle him before I leave by barking at me.

He was also chewing his fur at night because he was bored. I got him a buddy and it all stopped. And yes, there are plenty of people on here that keep FN's sectioned off and it's plenty of room.

okay, even if they don't get along will having someone below him to chatter to be helpful?

Honestly, my chins who don't get along don't chatter to each other. I had Buttons and Chula housed next to each other before, and now Chula is on top of Buttons and they have never "talked" to each other.

As for chins randomly barking, I know mine do. Buttons not so much, but Chula and the new boys are always randomly barking.

Yes, the cage is plenty big enough for even 4 chins. Do you have the 2 adjustable shelves? I had my cage so 2 boys had the upstairs, and I had one of those shelves in the middle of the lower right side so my loner who wouldn't get along had the whole lower left and 50% of the lower right. The 2 boys would hop down and visit through the wire I had made up to keep them separate. Just now I have all 4 boys happily living together. If it were me I would get another chin.

My 2 boys who are housed together bark on occasion at night and sometimes even during the day. Every now and then when they do this I do go over to see if they're ok and all of the time they are, so I guess they have me trained as well, LOL.

My chins Mick St. John and Wesley both feel the need to let you know they're there! I get the barks, the distress cries--the whole enchilada with those two! And Mick even does it in his sleep from time to time!

Just think - if you get another, and they don't get along, you can have stereo! haha

haha. Its okay, i'm a pretty heavy sleeper they can make as much noise as they want.

I think I'll probably get him a buddy. Hercules is around 8 or 9 months old, do you think a younger one or an older one would be a better match with him?

We had a few really hot days where there was no way I was leaving him in the living room with no air conditioner so we moved his cage into our room so he would be safe. Buddy lets out this cry at about 4AM. Don't know if he is lonely or what but it would be cute if it wasn't 4AM...

A funy story I like to tell happened not long after Trixie adopted us. I had her out playing in the back room. At the time we had a bed set up in the room. She went under the bed, and started barking like crazy. I had no clue what she was doing, and thought sure she was sick, or dying or something. I ran out to get my husband. A few weeks later I finally got to hear their sounds, and realized what the barking was.
Now we will cht with her a bit when she barks.

Kunya barks randomly for attention, usually an extra scratch! He's such a silly chinnie! But he gets our attention every time! Guess he has us wrapped around his paw...lol!
